Melissa reassured, “My mother must’ve been confused by Aurelia, refusing to let you marry into the family. But don’t worry. I’ll talk to her and swing her to your side.” 

Megan was disappointed. Perhaps she should return home and rally her parents to negotiate with Jessica.

Whenever the Alcott family asked her, she always brushed it off, unwilling to reveal the truth. She must have some hidden dark secrets. If we can dig up her black history, I don’t think Leopold will want her.” 

Aurelia gave a slight smile. “Thank you, dear Emma.” This ‘dear Emma‘ instantly closed the gap between the two.
