A chunk of glacial ice seemed to drift past, pressing heavily against Leopold’s heart, causing an icy chill to pierce his very being. 

Even from three yards away, he could sense the resentment from Aurelia as if it were powerful enough to destroy both him and their marriage. 

If it weren’t for their son, Kane, she would have probably left him and flown off to Goldstone with Arnold, wouldn’t she? 

Aurelia walked into her son’s room. “From now on, Mommy will move into your room and sleep with you. Is that okay?” 

“Sure.” Kane nodded, reaching out his little hand to grip hers. “Mommy, are you angry with Daddy?” 

Aurelia didn’t respond, gently brushing her hand over his head. “Sweetie, you’re still young. Things between grown–ups are complicated. You’ll understand when you’re older.” 

Despite his intelligence, he was still only three, far too young to understand the deception. and manipulation that adults were capable of. 

Kane snuggled into her arms. “Mommy, you won’t leave me, right?” 

He had looked forward to her return and didn’t want to lose her again. 

Aurelia held him tight, and her heart felt as if it was being strangled. Her pain was 

unbearable. 

“Mommy will always be here for you, looking after you and protecting you. I’ll never leave you.” 

Anyone who dared to harm her child would have to face her wrath. 

After Kane fell asleep, Aurelia poured herself a glass of milk and stepped out onto the balcony. 

It started to rain. 

The soft patter of raindrops hitting the railings was disturbing, a chaotic reminder of her messy mind. 

Leopold wandered onto the balcony, his low voice cutting through the dark night. “I’ll take care of Kane. You don’t need to worry about him.” 

Aurelia scoffed. “Can I trust your words anymore?” 

She would never trust him again, not him, not his words, not a single word he said, 

Leopold turned his gaze towards the distant darkness, trying to put on a tough front, 

“Whether you agree or not, this marriage is over. There’s no use in struggling ” 

Aurelia extended her hand, allowing the rain to fall into her palm, slipping through her fingers. 

A sorrowful smile slowly appeared on her beautiful face, resembling a fallen flower in the cold wind or a lone goose flying through a distant sunset. 

“Years ago, Jessica fought off Magnolia to protect you and her marriage. I can do the 

same.” 

She had not imagined that she would end up like Jessica, clinging onto a dead marriage and a man who was not even worth her time. 

If Leopold cheated on her, she would leave him without a second thought, ready to start a new life, alone but beautiful.
