Megan, on the other hand, was nothing more than a scheming socialite skilled in playing the game of high society, full of tricks but lacking in true talent and vision, just like Magnolia used to be. 

Aurelia offered a faint smile, choosing not to speak. She wasn’t one to discuss her private affairs with Leopold. In the corner of her eye, she noticed Melissa and Megan making their entrance. 

Melissa’s gaze was immediately drawn to Elvis, as it always was during these parties. Seeing him with Aurelia once again sent her into a fit of rage. 

That bitch, she thought, is trying to seduce Elvis again, probably looking for her next sugar daddy. 

Fuming, she marched straight over and sneered, “Elvis, you’re not thinking of picking up my brother’s wife, are you? You’re not really interested in his discarded woman, are you?” 

Jelena sprang up from the sofa. “Watch your mouth. It was your brother who refused to divorce and begged Aurelia to come back.” 

“And what of it?” retorted Megan. “He’s lost interest in that bitch now. How can a low–born girl ever compete with a high–born heiress?” 

Jelena scoffed. “You’re the one who played the mistress and now you’re pretending to be all high and mighty. Shame on you. We might have hard lives, but we’d never stoop so low as to be a home–wrecker.” 

Megan’s face turned pale as she retorted, “I’m not a mistress, because the one who’s not loved is a mistress. Leopold has always loved me. Aurelia is the intruder in our relationship.” She stated this brazenly, without a hint of shame or hesitation. 

Aurelia felt the irony of it all. The more shameless the person, the more invincible. 

“So, you think you’re the old villain woman of a soap opera? Do you think that marriage laws are just decorations without any legal consequences?” Aurelia said. 

At this, Megan trembled. Was this woman mocking her age? 

“I’m not old!” 

Aurelia chuckled. “You’re older than me.” 

Megan was left speechless, her cheeks burning with embarrassment. She wished she could send Aurelia straight to hell. But she couldn’t. If Aurelia were to die, she would lose all leverage over Leopold. He would dispose of her quickly. 

She wanted both Leopold and the position of the Stirling family’s young lady, not a mutual destruction with Aurelia. 

Taking a deep breath, she extended her hand, showing a ten–carat pink heart–shaped diamond ring on her ring finger. 

“This is the engagement ring Leopold gave me. He has proposed to me. Even if you two haven’t divorced yet, in his heart, you’re no longer his wife, I am.”
