Megan broke into sobs, “I know you blame me, for forcing you to divorce Aurelia and marry me. But it wasn’t my idea, and I was helpless too. I love you so much, so how could I ever hurt you? Aurelia getting infected with the superbug wasn’t my doing, and I don’t have such power.” 

Leopold’s eyes darkened slightly, “Who did it then?” 

“It was the people from AK Group. They were the ones who tried to assassinate you,” Megan wept, her face wet with tears, “Do you know what I’ve been through these past six years? You were poisoned, lying in the ICU. I was trying to find the antidote to save you, and I was looking for the assassin. I never expected that the culprit wasn’t an individual, but an organization. I fell into their trap and was held captive. I was injured and lost my memory. They smuggled me out of the country, kept me in a dungeon, and starved me if I didn’t obey them.” 

She stifled a sob, continuing, “It wasn’t until six months ago that I regained my memory. In order to come back to you, I agreed to their every demand. They even infected me with a vírus. Like Aurelia, I need to inject an antidote every month to survive. If I refuse, I’ll die. Marrying you was their arrangement, and I don’t know what they’re up to. I had no right to refuse.” 

Leopold’s expression softened slightly, “Do you know who their boss is?” 

She shook her head, “All I know is that everyone calls him Arthur. He’s only appeared on screen, always wearing a mask and using a voice changer. After your assassination attempt, Chad suddenly ordered to stop the investigation. I think he might have found something, possibly related to the Stirlings. You don’t have any mortal enemies, so it’s possible someone wants to take over your position.” 

Leopold’s expression darkened, and then he asked, “Who’s been contacting you?” 

“Her name is Vicky, the owner of the Twilight Club. AK Group operates in a single line, so I don’t know anything about the others. If I could replace Vicky, I could find out who’s above her.” 

Megan clutched Leopold’s sleeve, “I originally planned to investigate secretly and tell you the truth once I found out who Arthur was. But I can’t stand you misunderstanding me anymore. Leopold, I’m willing to be your inside agent, to help you find Arthur and eliminate AK Group. For you, I’m willing to do anything, even if it means sacrificing myself.” 

Leopold looked at her deeply, his gaze sharp and cryptic. He raised his hand and gently stroked her head. 

“I want you to always be the Megan I knew, and don’t change.”

His tone was slightly gentle, warming Megan’s frozen heart. She knew he still had feelings for her. As long as she could clear the misunderstanding, show him her worth, she could replace Aurelia sooner or later.
