Chapter 604
Megan couldn't stand being cooped up in the camp a second longer. She was itching to find Leopold. She whipped out her phone to call him, but his phone was dead.
Biting her lip in frustration, she roped in a bodyguard to accompany her through the bramble.
The bodyguard, Keen, was less than thrilled, thinking Megan had a knack for stirring up trouble.
"Mrs. Stirling, if you get bit by some venomous critter, don't go pointing fingers at me. I can't be your eyes and ears everywhere; he grumbled.
Megan glared at him coldly. "If something happens to me, it's on your head. Don't even think about shirking responsibility"
Keen snorted internally, You're the author of your misery. Who else are you going to blame?"
The former Mrs. Stirling was a real gem. She was pretty, kind-hearted, the life of the party, and a whiz in the kitchen. She was the dream girl of any man, head and shoulders above this one.
Keen led the way with a stick in hand to shoo away snakes.
They trudged on for ages but caught no sign of Leopold.
They were barking up the wrong tree. Of course, they couldn't see Leopold.
Megan trailed behind him.
A tiny bug, red with black stripes, stealthily landed on Megan's neck, wiggling its backside as it crawled about.
She felt a tickle and, with a slap, went for the kill. But before the bug died, it sunk its teeth into her skin.
A searing pain shot up from her neck, and she screamed bloody murder, "Oh god! Something poisonous has bitten me!"
Keen rushed over to inspect the "damage." Her neck got inflamed with a slight festering wound. The bug was toxic, all right.
“I told you there were nasty bugs around here. You should've listened. We must get back and treat the wound now. Who knows what kind of creepy-crawly it was! If it were something serious, you could be looking at an ICU stay."
Megan's face paled, and her knees wobbled. “I can't walk. Help me back, quick."
