Chapter 67
Aurelia’s face began to curl into a peculiar grin. “You’re Arno’s brother, and you hardly know him. He’s a gust of wind, refusing to be tamed. No one can catch him, nor will he pause for anyone.”
She paused, “Arno and I both love the arts, we have a lot in common. The best relationship between us is that of friends, not lovers. This is how I see it, and he feels the same. So, please stop questioning our relationship. My knight in shining armor is waiting for me somewhere in the near future.”
Leopold fell silent, his eyes darkening, as if besieged by the night.
He had always thought he had a keen intuition, able to see through her at a glance. But now, she was close at hand, yet like the moon in the water, a flower in the mist, elusive and indistinguishable in her words‘ truth. He picked up a glass of water from the coffee table, took a sip, and after a while, his voice came low, “If you don’t play by the rules, don’t expect a future.”
His tone was filled with domineering threats.
Aurelia stared at him unblinkingly, her inherent stubbornness slowly surfacing. “Once our children are born,, we will have no relation. What I do, who I date, who I marry, is my freedom.”
Leopold’s lips tightened, a sudden annoyance in his heart, as if his private property was about to be stolen.
He reached out, gripping her cheek, “You’re carrying my children now, don’t fill your head with nonsense, it affects the babies.”
The sudden change in topic caught Aurelia off–guard.
She almost forgot, prenatal influence matters.
“… take a nap, think about nothing, and let the babies listen to some music.”
She closed her eyes.
Leopold’s face remained gloomy, his mood didn’t seem to improve.
Early in the morning, Emma from the jewelry design team dumped a load of paperwork on Lily’s desk, demanding it be done by noon.
Lily was busy with a new design, how could she spare time for these mundane tasks?
“Emma, I’m part of Aurelia’s team now, you’ll need to handle this yourself.”
Emma gave her a disgruntled look, “Regardless of whose team you’re on, as long as you’re in my division, you’re under my rules.”
She raised her voice intentionally, making sure others could hear, seemingly making things difficult for Lily. but actually challenging Aurelia.
Aurelia, of course, heard this, put down her sketchpad, and walked over.
“Emma, Lily is right. She’s under my team now and only needs to follow my orders. As for your team’s tasks, you can assign them to others.”
After saying this, she gave Lily a small smile, “Focus on your design, don’t let anything else distract you.”
“Okay” Lily picked up the files, walked straight to Emma’s desk, and placed them there.
