"Her as a hostess? Not in this lifetime," Leopold's icy voice cut through the air, landing like a blunt object squarely on the back of Megan's head, leaving her reeling.
"I'm your wife, and isn't this a bit too cruel?" She whimpered, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Leopold wrapped an arm around Lana's shoulder, "What I need is a woman who's utterly devoted to me, selfless, with eyes for no one else. If she dares to have her own schemes, I'll make sure she loses everything."
Lana's smile was radiant, "You know what they say, too cunning for one's own good. Simplicity and innocence, like what Aurelia and I have, that's what's truly admirable."
He lifted a hand, tenderly stroking her hair, his eyes filled with adoration, "You're the most obedient and attentive."
Megan's face turned livid with envy. Every moment near Leopold was another swallow of bitterness, frustration, and rage.
"Leopold, I'm pregnant, carrying your child. It's hard. Can't you be a bit kinder, make things a bit easier for me?"
Leopold scoffed, "Did I ask you to get pregnant? Wasn't it you who pleaded for it? Look at you now, you're swollen and fat and covered in stretch marks, wider than a barrel, wider than a barrel. You're so unappealing that I can't bear to look at you. If you weren't pregnant, I wouldn't detest you so."
His eyes were full of disdain, and Megan felt like dying.
"Every woman changes during pregnancy. Wasn't Aurelia the same?"
Leopold's voice was icy, "She was careful not to show her face too much, knowing she wasn't looking her best. Unlike you, who seems to crave my attention, no matter how unattractive you become." It was a slap to Megan's face, her dignity trampled without mercy.
Aurelia smirked inwardly, always wondering where William had gotten his biting tongue. Now she knew it was a direct inheritance from his father, Leopold, whose venomous words were unparalleled.
If Aurelia had been on the receiving end of such remarks, she would have considered jumping out of a moving car rather than continue living.
