“Lisa,” Aurelia said with a gentle gaze, “I’ve talked it over with Arnold. You two can handle the divorce proceedings when the baby’s a bit older. I’m an outsider, and this is all I can do for you. You must seize this time and show Arnold who you are. You’ve done some things that upset him, but I know you’re a good person deep down. You still have a chance if you can change how he sees you. I want Arnold to be happy, and I believe you can be the woman who makes that happen.”
“Aurelia…” Lisa was stunned, her heart quivering.
“Are you thinking about getting back with Leopold?”
Aurelia shrugged with a faint smile. “Who knows what the future holds? We’ll see.”
Lisa looked at her, filled with guilt and regret.
She had thought Aurelia was a girl with a harmless face but a cunning heart. But then she realized Aurelia’s true nature was genuine kindness and forgiveness, which was why two extraordinary men were so devoted to her.
“Aurelia, I wish you happiness, too.”
William stood by the crib, curiously peering down at his baby sister.
She was as beautiful as a doll. She had chubby little cheeks, big bright eyes, and long lashes like butterfly wings.
“Nova, I’m your big brother, William. I’ll always protect you. No one's going to mess with you.”
After hearing William’s voice, Nova reached up with her little hand, and William gently took it.
Aurelia watched the siblings and smiled knowingly.
Her son had already switched on his protective big brother mode.
“Dads turn into softies with daughters, and I bet Arnold will become one, too.”
She thought of Leopold, who also longed for a daughter. She would gladly give him another child if they could reconcile.
Lisa sighed softly. “I don’t know if he’ll take to Nova. He didn’t even hold her when he came.”
Aurelia comforted her, “How could he not like his child? Look at Nova. She’s the spitting image of Arnold. With those eyes, that nose, and the lips, she’s like his mini-me.”
