William shook his head, a wry smile on his face. "Skyler doesn't have a girlfriend. He's always buried in his research and has no time for dating."
"Oh." Vivian grinned. "Then there's still hope for Ms. Joanna. She's the prettiest teacher at our school."
William made a face, shifting the topic, "Class is about to start. Gossip hour's over, Halley. You better head back."
Halley waved them off. "I'll see you guys later. I'll spill the tea if there's any new scoop."
On the way home at noon, Skyler popped open a Tupperware and bit into a mini muffin.
"Delicious. I love the cranberry ones. Angel must have made these for me."
"Of course," William chuckled. "I'm all about almonds, and Kane, he's a chocolate guy."
Skyler's smile split his face. He reveled in being the kid Angel doted on.
At home, it felt like he was invisible, with Mom, Dad, and Tanya never seeming to know or care about his likes or dislikes. Angel got him like nobody else did.
Back at the house, Jolin brought a plate of fruit for the kids.
The three of them sat on the couch, munching away and chatting.
William and Kane exchanged a glance, and then William leaned in and whispered, "Skyler, we caught wind of your 'situation' today."
Skyler blinked, puzzled. "What situation?"
"Word on the street is that several single teachers at our school have a crush on you. Ms. Joanna even asked you out to lunch today," William teased, his tone light as if it were all just a joke.
