The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 144

Monday.

Cordelia's phone in the Audit Department office rang. It was Ronan. "Come to my office. Bring your driver's license."

Cordelia was wondering what was up. Why was Ronan calling her first thing on a Monday morning? Was he going to divorce her?

In Ronan's office, the legal director was also there, busy sorting out a pile of documents, including what seemed like property deeds.

"The house we bought in Sunnydale Meadows is now under her name. The rest of the properties as well." Ronan told the legal director.

"Alright, the agreement is all set. We just need Ms. Haselwood's signature. I’ll take care of it with her driver's license," the legal assistant said.

Cordelia was a bit confused. "What?"

"You're going to debunk Adrian's rumors about our 'contract marriage' today. Off you go," Ronan commanded.

The legal director left the office. Now, it was just Cordelia and Ronan.

"All my properties are now under your name," Ronan told Cordelia.

"Oh," Cordelia replied nonchalantly.

"Why are you so chill about this? Do you know what these properties mean?" Ronan asked, looking at Cordelia with a mix of curiosity and amusement.

"They debunk the contract marriage rumor." Cordelia said.

She only understood part of the truth. There was still a lot she didn't know.

"Well, you're not wrong about that." Ronan got up from his chair and walked towards Cordelia.

Debunking the contract marriage rumor was just the tip of the iceberg. Secondly, her father had saved his life. Thirdly, it was to give his grandfather some peace.

One move, and three goals were achieved.

His towering figure made Cordelia snap to her senses. She looked up at Ronan, his eyes full of desire.

"Did you sleep well last night?" he asked.

"I slept great," Cordelia replied, trying to keep her spirits up.

After all, she was earning $2500 a month in the Audit Department, about seventy to eighty dollars a day. She was here to work, not to sleep.

Last night, she was so tired she blurted out, "I'm going to sleep," and dozed off with her back to Ronan. Her drowsy and lazy demeanor, with a hint of sensuality, was irresistible to Ronan.

Despite his struggle to detach himself from the "her father saved my life" mentality, being with Cordelia always stirred up a whirlwind of emotions - love, hate, gratitude, and a reluctance to be grateful...

These conflicting emotions made his actions even more intense.

Ronan gently pinched Cordelia's chin. "Do you actually like money, or do you just not care? All this wealth doesn't move you?"
