Melody could not even see where her future lay, but in that moment, she only knew she had to leave the family that always ensnared her, making it impossible for her to break free. That family was like a swamp that trapped Melody deep within. Without a ruthless break, she feared she would be bound forever.
It was painfully clear to her that her parents, unlike others, could not provide her with the support she needed, which added to Melody's distress. She had wondered more than once if it was because of her shortcomings that Helen and Ethan treated her this way. Still, why were they so kind to Wendy, even though she was a girl as well? Not to mention, Wendy was not even Helen's biological daughter.
After all these years, Melody could not help but doubt herself. "I thought that if I fulfilled all their wishes and demands, they'd love me like they love Wendy. In the end, I was just deluding myself. No matter how hard I try, they won't ever love me."
With a heart full of pity, Lucas gently caressed Melody's cheek. He could not understand how any parent could find fault with such a well-behaved daughter. That so-called sister of Melody's was incredibly selfish, reaching the height of self-centeredness.
Instead of clarifying things for her sister online when she got into trouble, she went as far as to smear her name. It was truly difficult to fathom what kind of twisted family dynamics exist here.
"You've already done well, Melody. In fact, you haven't done anything wrong. Choosing to escape from that family was the best decision you've made. Continuing to stay with them wouldn't bring any good, and they'd drain you for the rest of your life.
"As for what Wendy did, you don't need to worry about it anymore. Just stay off from online news for the moment and leave the matter to me, okay?"
Lucas could not bear to let Melody witness what he was going to do. Even though it was a fact that Helen and the others had been cruel to Melody, letting her witness it all firsthand was just too cruel.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Day I Kissed An Older Man
This book is a good book, but it’s too short. I hope it has a part two👍🏾...
This book is getting boring now. I loved Jeremy, Corinne, Sonny and Lucas. The story needs to end. or bring back more of Jeremy, etc....
I haven't skipped any chapter at all. Though the story is good, it keeps going back to base one. I think this has no ending at all and somehow after reading more than 2500 chapters it's kinda tiring already. They have drained all the thrills....
Great writing! I almost cried when Helen hit Melody! So sad! 😭 can’t wait to see how the relationship with her and Lucas develops though. So tired of the repetitive problems with different people....
Yikes my body tenses so much, my moods change as the scenes change. It leaves me wanting to continue reading....
my heart breaks for melody, so many ups and downs, i shed a few tears when lucas walked by melody carrying thalia, and melody stayed quiet while watching them leave. i find myself getting into character as if im one. i dont remember ever feeling like that in any other books. im thankful the 10 chapters/day. waiting for the next 10...
We have updated progress from 7 chapters/day to 10 chapters/day.<3...
i love grandma Beatrice, there needs to me more people like her in the world straight forward and to the point, no beating around the bush and worrying about offending anyone, why pretend to be someone your not....
looking forward to more chapters, The same thing is happening to Melody as what happened to Luna, if Luna was back maybe she would set Lucas straight, can't wait to see how Lucas handles the situations that will arrive. Poor Melody....
ya Lucas pay more attention to Melody lets see what happens waiting for more chapters thanks...
