The Day Our Promise Breaks (Charles and Evelyn) novel Chapter 230

“Charlie didn't know I had to pull some strings to make this birthday happen. All she knew was that you would finally spend a day with her at the amusement park, and it would just be the two of you.”

“That day, Charlie secretly called to confirm that you really were going to be with her on her birthday. Even if it was a bit early, she didn't mind. She was over the moon, practically jumping for joy.”

“She couldn't wait to tell her friends how thrilled she was that her dad was taking her to the amusement park. Her eyes sparkled with excitement, and she couldn't stop smiling as she emphasized, ‘Just us, alone together.’"

“Her friends looked at her, bewildered, unable to grasp why she was so excited about something as simple as spending time with her dad.”

“They didn't know that since turning five, this was the first time her dad would celebrate her birthday with her and the first time she'd have him all to herself since she started understanding such important things.”

“But even on this special occasion, you ended up leaving her for Sandy.”

Evelyn's voice grew sharp with emotion as she recounted the story. Her eyes were fixed on Charles, whose eyes had turned red with guilt.

He did feel pain, after all!

Evelyn wiped away her tears and handed a USB drive to Charles with a cold determination.

"You want to see Charlie, right? Watch this, and then I'll take you to her immediately!"

"Alright!"

Charles took the USB drive without a second thought and passed it to Aiden, who was already tearing up.

Just as he was about to turn and ask Evelyn, a little figure he desperately wanted to see appeared on the screen.

It was Charlie.

Dressed in a white puffer jacket, a little yellow duck backpack, and a pink bunny-ear hat, her cherubic face looked even more adorable.

She had clearly dressed in her favorite outfit to meet her dad.

Once inside the park, Charlie stood quietly in one spot. Her cheeks were flushed with excitement as she eagerly watched for someone at the entrance.

The moment Charles saw Charlie, everything became crystal clear.
