The Day Our Promise Breaks (Charles and Evelyn) novel Chapter 457

All her careful plans crumbled to dust.

...

"Disappointed it isn't me?" a voice as cold as ice came from behind Dahlia.

Recognizing Adam's voice, she nearly let slip, "Yeah, super disappointed!" But she caught herself just in time, biting her lip hard to stop her true feelings from spilling out. She took a deep breath, trying to keep her cool and maintain a neutral expression.

She noticed Charles was looking her way, prompted by her words. She couldn't let him suspect anything. If Charles started snooping around, he might uncover that she had orchestrated the accident.

Quickly, she plastered on a smile and turned to Adam, pretending to be sincere. "How could I possibly be disappointed?"

"I just got carried away with relief. This outcome is honestly the best. Sandy's okay, and neither you nor Evelyn will hold grudges."

Dahlia said this while making sure to glance at Evelyn.

"After all, I messed up with the whole kidney donor issue for Charlie. If Evelyn resents me and wishes Sandy wasn't doing well, I get it."

"You conniving snake, just zip it!"

Adam, fed up, kicked her wheelchair aside. He was afraid that if he heard another word, he might lose it and do something drastic.

"Adam!" Evelyn turned at the sound of his voice and rushed to him, seeing him still in his sterile gown. Her hands gripped his shoulders, eyes full of concern as she checked him over to make sure he was really okay.

"I'm fine," Adam reassured her, pulling Evelyn, who was still trembling, into his arms to calm her down. Once she was convinced Adam was alright, Evelyn quickly regained her composure.
