Clayton took a deep look at Nicole and felt frustrated.
He looked at the snow-white skin on Nicole’s chest with his dark eyes and pulled over a thin blanket on the side to cover her up.
"Wait a sec. Let's have dinner together tonight.”
Nicole smiled and watched as he walked out with a glum face.
She inexplicably felt much better.
Nicole could hear Clayton's voice outside. He grunted and said in a cold and harsh tone, "I thought that there was an earthquake since you didn't even care to knock." The person who barged in was guilty and regretted barging in when he noticed Clayton's glum expression and messy shirt.
Nicole stretched her back, fixed her clothes, and lay back down.
After a while, she fell asleep in a daze.
When she woke up again, it was already dark.
Beyond the curtains, the sky outside was dark.
It took Nicole a while to come to her senses before she recalled where she was.
She could vaguely hear someone outside, talking in a low voice.
Clayton had deliberately lowered his voice when he spoke on the phone.
Nicole got out of the bed, barefoot, and looked down through the floor-to-ceiling window.
The road was dotted by the neon lights from the cars in traffic that wound all the way to the end, bringing color to the dark scenery.
After Clayton finished his phone call, he was stunned for a moment when he did not see Nicole on the bed.
Then, he saw that Nicole was standing by the window.
Clayton turned on the lights, which instantly lit up the entire room.
Nicole turned back.
Clayton smiled. "You're finally awake? Can you still sleep at night?"
Nicole stretched her back and stretched out her arms coquettishly.
“Yes, you can coax me.”
Clayton walked over and carried her to the bed. He touched her feet and was relieved to find that her feet were not cold.
“Dream on. I'm hoping that you won't be able to sleep..."
He smiled meaningfully.
His eyes darkened.
Nicole looked away and pretended not to see his desire.
She remembered exactly what happened before she took a nap.
If they had sex here, how could she show her face again at his office?
Clayton almost lost his mind because of her beauty.
Fortunately, Nicole stopped it in time. Clayton also knew that now was not the time, so he helped her to put on her shoes >f ";RKQ< took her out of the office.
Nicole swept a glance around and thought,' Why is it empty?'
Although the lights were on, no one was working overtime.
She glanced at Clayton.
"Where’s everyone?"
Clayton pointed to his watch.
"They're off work."
"Your company is so humane? No one works overtime here? They don't even want the extra overtime pay?"
Nicole found it hard to understand.
Although she was an advocate of work-life balance, she did not mind treating those who work overtime with kindness since the company was under a lot of pressure.
Clayton smiled and glanced at her.
“Did you think that I'm like you, squeezing every last drop of energy from my employees? My company is very humane and definitely doesn't recommend working overtime. I'll never force it unless they voluntarily stay back to contribute to the company.”
The corners of Nicole's mouth twitched as she thought, What a high-sounding hypocrite! How could he make himself look so perfect? When I was working overtime, he even asked the nanny to make me dinner and send it over!'
Nicole rolled her eyes. Clayton laughed and put his arms around her shoulders to pull her closer to him.
"Fine... I asked them to leave because you were sleeping here. I didn't know when you’d wake up, and you’d get mad at me again if others see you staying over so late."
Nicole felt better after he explained it.
She chuckled lightly. "It won’t stop you from making money, right?”
Clayton glanced at her and said with a smile, "Then how will you compensate me, Ms. Stanton?"
Nicole said, "What do you think?”
"With your body!”
Clayton said in a husky voice and let out a low chuckle.
Nicole suddenly thought of Tina's reaction earlier.
Tina and Zach were high school sweethearts, but they could not stand the test of time.
Would Clayton be with Nicole forever?
Nicole tilted her head to look at Clayton.
"Mr. Sloan..."
Clayton raised his eyebrows when he heard this.
Usually, Nicole would call him that when she had a difficult problem for him.
Perhaps Nicole did not even realize that she had such a habit.
"What is it?"
Nicole thought about it halfway through and stopped immediately.
She initially wanted to ask what would happen if he had a change of heart one day?
However, she instantly came to her senses.
As soon as she said this, she would be seen as being paranoid and would hence be at a disadvantage.
It was taboo to be paranoid about the other half being unfaithful in marriage.
This was also the reason why Nicole had been keeping a conscious mind throughout her marriage.
She would never indulge in the sweet moments that a man gave her.
One should always be prepared for danger in times of peace. This was true both in the business world and in marriage.
Clayton glanced at her. He could not get distracted while driving, so he squeezed her palm and said, "What's the matter? Tell me."
Nicole coughed and smiled with a nonchalant expression.
"What will you do if I have a change of heart one day?"
Nicole reversed the roles, which made the meaning of her words completely different.
In an instant, Clayton's smile disappeared completely.
He looked at her with dark eyes, and he pursed his lips.
"Did Eric harass you today?"
He asked in a low and hoarse voice as he gritted his back teeth.
