Jade’s face turned pale.
“You should try both, or at least find a reliable lawyer to get him less jail time.”
Nicole could not help but chuckle.
She interrupted their conversation.
“Aunt Jade, in fact, you came at the right time. We’re here to discuss how to rescue Uncle Noah!”
Jade glanced at her in surprise and disbelief.
“Then… What did you discuss?”
Clayton smiled inexplicably. His warm gaze fell on Nicole, and he looked like he was watching a good show.
Nicole sighed.
“Actually, we have consulted a lawyer. The worst-case scenario is the death penalty. After all, he killed two people. But there is a way. Uncle Noah was married to you back then, right? As long as you come forward to testify that Uncle Noah has been with you all the time, so he didn’t have a chance to commit those crimes, there may be a glimmer of hope!”
Jade’s face turned pale instantly, and she stood up in shock.
“You… You want me to give a false statement? How could I? This is illegal!”
Nicole sneered with a chill in her eyes.
“Wow, you know the law? Then why did you ask my dad to do those illegal things as soon as you came in?”
Only then did Jade realize that she was being played by Nicole.
Her face turned livid.
“Nicole, you can’t say that. I was just anxious, so I didn’t think it through. Your uncle hasn’t been convicted yet, so we can still fight for his freedom.”
Nicole lowered her eyes and raised her eyebrows.
“Then you should work harder. We’re counting on you!”
“What do you mean?” Jade looked at her, and finally at Floyd.
“Big Brother, you don’t plan to help Noah?”
Floyd’s eyes were deep and dark.
“He has to pay the price for what he did. We have no control over what you want to do, but we don’t need your input either.”
Jade did not expect Floyd to be so determined.
She panicked for a while.
Jade was no longer tough and domineering. She stuttered and sat down again, organizing her thoughts.
“If he dies like this, how will my daughter and I live? We’ll be an orphan and a widow…”
As Jade spoke, two drops of tears came out of her eyes.
It was a pity that no one cared.
Floyd lowered his eyes and looked impatient. He was just putting up with Jade.
Nicole thought it was hilarious.
“Aunt Jade, your daughter isn’t Uncle Noah’s biological daughter, and she’s not a Stanton. Our family raised her for you, yet you still want her to depend on Uncle Noah for the rest of her life? Even bloodsuckers aren’t so diligent.”
Jade suddenly froze. Her face was glum.
“Nicole, you’re too harsh. Your uncle couldn’t have a child, but I took care of him. What’s wrong with him taking care of my daughter in return?”
Kai could not stand it and interrupted her irritably.
“That’s enough. What are you doing here? We don’t welcome you here!”
Jade took a deep breath to hold back her anger.
Floyd did not stop his children from being rude, which meant he condoned this behavior.
Jade was aware of her situation, but she did not want to leave empty-handed.
