Rafal had to obey Arlan’s order, and let the pretty boy who seduced his liege enter his room, albeit unwillingly. Neil accompanied Oriana, acting as her helper, bringing with him medicinal supplies borrowed from a royal physician.
When they reached the knight’s lodgings, she told the frowning man, "Sir Ahren, please sit down."
"Where?"
"Anywhere."
With a sigh, Rafal sat on the bed.
Oriana went to check the wound on his head first and started asking questions as a physician would do, her tone was serious and strict. freeweɓnovel.cøm
"Are you dizzy?"
"No."
"Headache?"
"No."
"Nauseous? Do you feel like vomiting? How about your balance?" Oriana asked as she gently touched the area around the cut.
"No to all. Just clean the wound and patch it."
"Hmm, it doesn’t look that serious...."
Rafal gestured for Neil to hand over the bandages.
"I already told you, it’s not–ugh!" He let out a groan as the sudden movement brought a sharp pain inside his chest.
"Stop making this hard for both of us, Sir Ahren," she said coldly, as if to show his behavior wouldn’t affect her. "You are my patient, so do as I say."
"You dare order me—"
"Let’s make this clear. Right now, you are only a patient in my eyes. When it comes to my patient, I must be strict."
Rafal sighed in annoyance and looked the other way.
Oriana continued, "You are having trouble breathing, that means your lungs might be damaged. There is also the possibility of your ribs being fractured. You were thrown against the stone wall so it must have..."
"Only weaklings like you get affected by such an ordinary hit."
Oriana felt like rolling her eyes. ’Will it hurt his ego to admit he’s in pain? Does being honest and saying it hurts make him less of a man?’
"Please remove your clothes so I can check your chest and back."
"No need. Give me something to relieve pain—"
"Listen to what Orian says, Rafal."
Rafal turned around with an unimpressed look while Oriana spoke to Neil, "Neil, can you bring warm water to clean Sir Ahren’s head wound."
Neil left and Oriana informed the knight, "There might be no broken bones, but you vomited blood earlier."
"I just bit my tongue by accident."
Oriana pretended to not hear him. "Your right lung suffered a contusion. I encourage coughing to get rid of the fluid build up inside. It will take at least a week for the bruised organ to go back to normal, so expect to have problems breathing till then. I will go and prepare medicine for you, but for now, please stay in a prone position to reduce the pressure on the diaphragm and your lungs."
"You don’t have to worry about me," said the grumpy man.
Oriana, who was about to get up from the bed, sat back and glared at him. "Believe me, I do not want to either, but the physician inside me won’t allow me. Moreover, I am not an ungrateful bastard. You got hurt while protecting me. If you tell me to not worry about you, then you should tell yourself to not protect other people so they will not feel gratitude. Don’t go saving people you don’t like."
He looked at her fiery gaze. "It is a knight’s duty to protect."
"And it is a physician’s duty to heal," she replied. "I do not know what problem you have with me. I’m not blind that I cannot see you always glare at me hatefully, but trust me, I do not even care so you can save that glare and hate for your enemies."
Rafal was rendered speechless. He could not say a word of refute. The way she looked at him, her eyes clearly showed she was losing her temper.
After Oriana stormed out of the room, Rafal exhaled, his face cramping in pain amidst it. ’Fair enough. I never thought that village boy had it in him to shout like that though. He got guts.’
When Oriana returned with the medicines, Neil was in the middle of bandaging Rafal’s head, already done with cleaning the wound. This time, she didn’t spare a glance at Rafal. Even when she was sitting in front of him, ordering him to drink the concoctions she made, she acted as if she was speaking to a wall.
"Make sure he remains in a prone position," Oriana told Neil before leaving the room.
