"I subjected you to suffering, revealing the extent of my power over the entire Royal family. Yet, you persist in acting insolent towards me?" Edna’s words dripped with disdain. "It appears you won’t desist until I actually take someone’s life."
Julien, cradling Arlan, cast an anxious gaze at the witch, only for her to continue, "Whom shall I offer as a demonstration? The King, your own son, Lenard, or Alvera?"
"Do not dare—"
Edna chuckled. "You hold no authority to threaten me. Understand your place, human. I tolerate your existence solely because I require you to nurture my prince and attend to him each time after I indulge in his blood. Otherwise, I would not hesitate to end you. I seek no disturbances until my goal is achieved, so surrender and comply with my demands quietly."
"You are disgusting. Drinking a child’s blood—"
"Alvera," the witch interrupted, dismissing her concerns. "She holds less value to you. I will eliminate her to prove my point." She turned to the nanny. "Karla, bring that girl here."
"No. Do not lay a hand on her," Julien placed Arlan aside and rose to intervene.
"I certainly can, and much like the prince, you won’t be able to shield her but instead witness her demise helplessly."
Julien pleaded, "No, please don’t. She’s just a child."
Seeing Julien finally beseeching her, Edna laughed. "Are you surrendering, planning to obey me?"
Tears streamed down Julien’s face. "As long as you harm no one."
"I won’t. I give you my word that I won’t inflict harm, as long as I get to feed on the prince’s blood every full moon night. You will bring him to me," Edna declared. "It won’t kill him. I merely require his blood."
Julien gazed at Arlan’s pallid face and couldn’t bring herself to agree.
"Karla, it seems we need to fetch that girl."
"No. I agree," Julien exclaimed.
In her mind, conceding to Edna, for now, seemed the safest option, as it would protect Alvera’s life.
"Good. Now step aside," Edna commanded, striding toward the bed.
"Why are you approaching him? You’ve already taken his blood," Julien questioned, a note of anxiety in her voice.
"Do you think I’ll just trust your words? Aren’t you planning to agree with me for now and then find a way to eliminate me?" Edna’s words caught Julien off guard.
"Do not harm him. I told you I will listen to you."
Edna smirked wickedly. "You look better when you’re scared," she remarked, taking a seat at the edge of the bed. "I have no reason to harm him. He is what I need. Now, keep quiet."
Edna gently caressed Arlan’s small face. "My prince, how do you feel now that you’ve experienced your true self for the first time? Are you shocked, surprised, or thrilled? You should express gratitude, for I used my power to unveil your true nature. Do you comprehend how long I’ve awaited this day, this night? Finally, I can attain what I desire, and it will persist from now on." She held his tiny hand, a wicked smile adorning her lips. "You possess great power, but alas, you are a kind-hearted child. You don’t even grasp how to wield this power to harm others. Tsk."
Despite his formidable abilities, he was still just a child, unaware of the extent of his capabilities. All he could do was instinctively construct a protective barrier around himself, but he had to relinquish that defense to safeguard Julien.
"However, until the day you mature and might desire to harm me, I will have ensnared you so thoroughly that you won’t even contemplate harming me."
Edna took Arlan’s hand and pricked her nail into the small palm, causing a small bead of blood to emerge.
"What are you doing?" Julien demanded.
"Karla," Edna responded to Julien’s agitation.
"Lady Julien, Master, she will not harm the prince. Please be patient," Karla assured.
Julien harbored disdain for Karla, but she had no choice but to stand by as a helpless bystander.
"As if I am even interested in the lowly matters of you humans," Edna chuckled, showing her agreement. "I cannot prevent my Prince from growing into a fine man." She stood up and left with Karla.
Once the two women departed, Julien went to Arlan and cried while sitting by his side.
She held his hand apologetically. "Forgive me, Arlan. I failed to protect you, and I don’t know what to do. I am helpless. But, hold on. I will find some way. Someone out there must be capable enough to help us and punish that witch. Until then, hold on and trust me." She cried for a long time and then said, "I will be your mother and take care of you from now on. I won’t let you feel the lack of a mother’s love and affection. This is the least I can do for you. Forgive me for being so weak and not being able to fight against a witch."
Just then, the door opened, and a woman rushed inside the Prince’s chamber. Julien looked at her, but the woman went straight to Arlan. Her beautiful face looked weak and exhausted, painted with worry, and her eyes held fear.
"Amaya."
Julien called out her name, surprised by her sudden presence.
Amaya looked at her. "Where is Edna?"
As Amaya inquired about Edna, Julien sensed that Amaya was aware of everything. "So, you kept one witch as your servant all along. I won’t be surprised if you are a witch as well," Julien’s eyes reflected resentment.
"Julien, I am not a witch, and I recently found out about Edna," she replied calmly, "but this is not the time to discuss it. I need to stop her. Tell me where she is."
Hearing her, Julien felt a glimmer of hope. "C-Can you stop her?"
"I can," Amaya replied, determined. "You just take care of the Prince. I think I know where I can find her. The place she often visits, the rear part of this palace."
"Amaya, she is powerful," Julien expressed her worry. "You are weak. It’s been just two weeks since you gave birth. You should not—"
"I do not care," Amaya said resolutely as she walked away from the room. "I need to stop her or everyone would be in danger," and left.
Julien could only watch her leave, uncertain about how Amaya planned to handle the situation. That witch was wicked and merciless.
