Arlan returned to Honeysuckle Palace with the thought of finally joining his wife in bed after a long, busy day. To his surprise, she wasn’t in her bedchamber but in her study. She was sitting behind the desk, her eyes fixed on the sword laid out before her, her fingers tracing the intricate carvings on its handle.
"Seems like you fancy a sword," Arlan remarked as he entered the dimly lit room.
Oriana looked up, her eyes meeting his. "I’m not sure, but I feel connected to this one."
Arlan approached the desk and picked up the sword, the same one Luis Mortimer had gifted him a few days prior. "It’s something that belongs to your family, so it’s natural for you to feel connected to it."
She leaned back in her chair, a contemplative expression on her face. "It made me want to learn how to use a sword."
"Is that why you had Rafal teach you this afternoon?" he asked.
"When he brought this sword to me, I couldn’t help it," she admitted.
"I hope he taught you well."
"He’s a great teacher, but I’m not that good of a student," she said with a small smile.
A light smirk played on Arlan’s lips. "How about I teach you?"
"I prefer Rafal," Oriana declared firmly.
He raised an eyebrow. "You prefer another man over your own husband, who is famous for his sword skills?"
"Rafal was going to arrange another teacher for me, but knowing how jealous you can get, I insisted he teach me himself. I know you won’t mind Rafal," she replied. "Besides, Rafal isn’t just any man; he’s my guardian knight."
Arlan couldn’t deny her logic. He would never have allowed any other man. As long as it was Rafal or Imbert, he could accept it.
"I want to focus on learning, which would be impossible with you around," she added.
He chuckled. "Are you worried that instead of learning swordplay, you’d be wrestling with me on the training ground?"
"I have no doubt about that, as my husband is perverted and horny all the time."
He couldn’t help but smile widely at her comment. "Alright, I will let Rafal teach you. Once you are nicely trained, we might have a spar."
"I look forward to it," she replied.
He walked towards her chair and leaned down, resting his arms on the armrests. "For now, how about a spar in bed?"
"I am tired," she replied calmly. "The sword training was quite taxing."
"I won’t tire you much." With that, he held her hand and pulled her to her feet.
"Arlan, we had enough last night."
"Nothing is ever enough for me." He held her closer, pressing her against his body.
"I am not leaving my study," she protested, trying to escape his hold. "Let go of me."
"As you wish," he said, making her sit on her work table.
"What are you doing?"
"Following your wish that you want to do it here in your study."
"When did I say that?"
"I just heard it."
"Sir Ahren, you are one of the best swordsmen here. I have seen you practicing and training our knights. No one can be as good as you."
"But..."
"If another man were to teach me, your liege would be jealous and throw him out before I could learn a single move," she interrupted. "But if it’s you, he wouldn’t mind."
Rafal couldn’t disagree with her claim, knowing Arlan all too well.
"Will you teach me?" she asked again.
"As you wish, Your Highness." freёwebnovel.com
A smile lit up Oriana’s face. "I would need a different dress."
"Yes, Your Highness. I will ask the servants—"
"No need. I will wear what I used to as Orian," Oriana said, then hesitated, realizing she was referring her old identity, which often unsettled the prideful knight.
"That would do, Your Highness," he replied coolly, making her let out a sigh of relief.
Soon she returned dressed in men’s clothes, this time with her hair styled in a long, tight braid instead of a head wrap.
"Where are we going to train?" she asked excitedly.
"There is His Highness’ personal training ground in the garden of Thistle Palace. We can train there."
"That sounds great. We just have to go to the next residence," she said, walking ahead. "Let’s head there."
Rafal followed her quietly while the servants wondered what their Crown Princess was now up to.
