33 A Scandalous Name
Liam’s body shivered in disgust. The person who called his name in a pretend sweet voice was Samantha.
“Oh? Mr. Bennett, it really is you. What a surprise! Were you doing a little shopping here too?”
Liam didn’t feel even the slightest urge to talk to her today. Or at any other time for that matter. Shifting his gray eyes away from her as quickly as he could, he simply walked past her, paying her no more attention.
Samantha, however, didn’t mean to give up just yet.
“Mr. Bennett,” she shouted again, “Wait a minute, please!”
Liam stopped and sighed, but didn’t turn around. Accepting his unwelcoming behavior, Samantha ran to him and when she found herself standing in front of the man, Mr. Bennett arched his eyebrows, and asked coldly, “What is it?”
“Oh,” Samantha looked him up and down and upon
noticing that his hands were empty, asked, “What were you doing here?”

“That’s hardly any of your business.”
Offended by his emotionless response, Samantha pouted her lips, but when she saw that it didn’t move him at all, she looked him straight in the eyes and said more assertively now, “I am quite impressed by you, Mr. Bennett.”
Liam was taken aback by her words. He was already used to her spitting nonsense every time she opened her mouth but this time, it was something completely unexpected.
“And what is that supposed to mean?”
Samantha took a careful step back, feigning an even more upset expression. She wanted him to feel guilty; and if that wouldn’t work –to feel bad for acting so heartlessly when she was trying to show him some respect, no matter how fake it actually was.
With a slight tremble in her voice, she started,
“Well, you know… I’m not from the same background as the rest of the high society, I don’t really belong with any of you… Mr. Clark never treated me like I was beneath him while everybody else did. But after the benefit, when he stood up for me like that, it seems

like now everybody is walking on the eggshells around me. But not you. Your opinion of me remained unchanged and I think it is very admirable.”
Liam observed her saddened face for a few moments, his dark gray eyes running up and down and scanning her features with razor–sharp precision. Then, he smirked, and finally answered, “Yes, indeed. My opinion of you will never change. No matter what.”
That was a good note to end their conversation right away, thus, Liam simply shot Samantha one final warning glare and simply walked away, leaving her to stand alone in front of the jewelry store.
Just a few moments later, Austin exited the store and saw Samantha looking back in the direction of the elevators. He ran past her too, then caught up to his boss, and asked somewhat nervously, “Was that Mr. Clark’s friend?”
“Yes.” Liam’s voice was cold and irritated as if he had just had an unpleasant encounter with his sworn enemy. His assistant caught the drift right away and responded with a sigh, “Don’t be rude to her, Mr.
Bennett. If she is indeed very close to Mr. Clark,

for you.”
“I don’t care,” Liam hissed through his gritted teeth, “I wouldn’t even remember her name if she wasn’t
always hovering around me like a damn mosquito.”
Mr. Hall could only sigh again. He understood his boss‘ frustration but at the same time, it was still his job to keep him out of any possible trouble.
Once the two of them got to Liam’s private car at the department store’s parking lot, Austin started the engine when he suddenly remembered an important piece of information.
“Oh! I almost forgot! Mr. Marshall called me last night, he said he would think about your request.”
Liam released a brief chuckle. Then, he leaned back in the car seat and closed his eyes. “Alright. It means he has already agreed.”
