On the way back, Dean drove, while Yasmin sat in the passenger seat. Ryan was sitting in the back.
“Mr. Hoffman, we must be on guard from now on.”
Yasmin spoke cautiously, “Christopher is the owner of Pivotage. With the commotion we caused tonight, he’ll definitely hear about it. I’m worried he might use tonight’s incident to come after you.”
“It doesn’t matter. He’s nothing but a pale, beardless coward.”
Ryan’s voice remained sharp and arrogant, but it was hoarse, burning with intensity. “I got what I wanted. Liam had someone injure your leg, so I cut off his arm. We’re even now. As for the rest, who cares?”
“Thank you for avenging me, Mr. Hoffman.” Tears filled Yasmin’s eyes, and her voice choked with emotion. “But I hope this is the last time you’re doing something like this. From now on, I can avenge myself. I don’t want you getting into any more trouble because of me.”
Ryan pressed his pale lips into a thin line, remaining silent.
“Mr. Hoffman, are you heading home now?” Dean asked, glancing at the resting Ryan through the rearview mirror.
“Home… Pfft, do I even have a home now?”
Ryan coughed heavily, as if swallowing the bitterest gall in the world, making it almost unbearable to speak. “From the moment Carrie left me, I have had no home. I dare not even return to Willow Creek Villa anymore.”
These days, he had nowhere to go and had been staying in the presidential suite of a hotel.
With his wealth, buying ten more villas would not be a problem. However, he dared not live alone in those empty houses.
Every place resembling his home would stir up a deep-seated longing for Carrie. Every corner reminded him of the happy times they once shared.
The longing was more agonizing than physical torture. He could barely endure it any longer.
“Yasmin, give me a cigarette,” Ryan said with his hoarse and broken voice.
Yasmin tried to suppress her heartache and earnestly advised, “No, Mr. Hoffman. You’ve been smoking too much these days. The doctor said smoking and drinking are harmful for your health. You bear a heavy responsibility, so you mustn’t collapse. Please don’t harm your body anymore!”
Before Yasmin could finish speaking, Dean suddenly slammed on the brakes, jolting the car.
“What’s going on?” Ryan’s phoenix-like eyes widened slightly.
Dean’s forehead beaded with sweat as he frantically honked the horn. “M-Mr. Hoffman, we’re in a standoff with another car ahead. They’re refusing to give way.”
Yasmin noticed that although the car was not as luxurious as Ryan’s, it had a distinctive black-and-white license plate.
In Savrow, only privileged individuals or high-ranking government officials drove such vehicles.
Yasmin reluctantly said to Dean, “Let’s reverse and make way for them.”
“Just drive forward,” Ryan ordered coolly.
Yasmin hesitated. “But Mr. Hoffman, that car…”
“He was driving the wrong way. He should’ve made way for us. If he doesn’t understand the rules, why show him any courtesy? Crash into him.”
Dean did not dare to disobey Ryan’s orders. He shifted gears and stepped on the gas pedal.
