The Enigmatic Return (Neera and Jean) novel Chapter 31

While the triplets were celebrating their success, Ian was thoroughly frustrated.

He initially guessed that the blackout was caused by a blown fuse. However, after the electrician inspected the switch box, the conclusion was that everything was normal.

That proved that the central control system was hacked!

He had no other choice but to fix the software himself.

With his abilities, it took him about fifteen minutes to restore power to the mansion.

After the lights went on again, a curious wound formed on Neera's lips.

There was also a wound of similar size on Jean's chin.

Ian happened to notice that when he returned to the room to make a status report to Jean. "What happened? Sire, Dr. Garcia, why… are you injured?"

Jean glanced at Neera and said, "It's nothing. She bumped into me."

"Ahem! Cough cough!" Neera's face turned red, and she choked on her own saliva.

Even though it was pitch dark, she could clearly sense that she had kissed the man's chin and driven her teeth into it when she fell.

She was nervous and awkward earlier, so she did not feel anything. Now that Jean mentioned it, she realized some skin had come off her lips.

She took a bottle of antiseptic from her briefcase on the coffee table and tossed it to Jean.

"Here, use this."

She grabbed the briefcase and hastily ran away.

Before she left the room, she suddenly remembered something and turned around. "Don't forget to take the bath while the water is still warm."

After that, she went away and did not return.

Jean said nothing as he watched her leave. No one knew what he was thinking, though one could catch a hint of surprise in his eyes.

After Neera left the mansion, Jean turned his head and asked Ian. "What happened earlier? Why did the electricity cut off all of a sudden?"

Ian dared not hide the truth from him. He said, "Someone hacked into the central control system of the house."

Jean's expression sank when he heard that.

"Did you find anything?" Jean asked coldly.

"N… No. The attacker is very careful to hide their tracks," Ian said fearfully.

He could tell that Jean was about to lose his temper, so he added, "But I've already told the technicians to strengthen our defenses. Don't worry. This won't happen again!"

Even though Jean was unhappy, there was nothing else he could do for now. He nodded and went into the bathroom.

Neera was still unsettled after returning to her mansion.

How did I kiss that man's chin, and why did I drive my teeth into it?

That's the most embarrassing thing I've ever done in my life! It'll be awkward the next time I see him!

She went upstairs while her mind wandered.

When she entered the front gate earlier, the triplets had tucked away their laptops and waited for her in her bedroom.

They were dressed in identical cow print pajamas. When they heard their mother come into the house, they got off their beds and went downstairs to greet her.

"You must be tired, Mommy!"

Harvey brought a glass of water for her, and Sammy massaged her back.

Penny was observant. She noticed the mark on Neera's lips and cried out in surprise. "Ah! What happened to your lips, Mommy? How did you hurt yourself?"

Neera nearly choked on the water. She put the glass away and laughed awkwardly.

"I… accidentally bit my lips when talking to Mr. Handsome."

She was afraid that the triplets might continue asking questions, so she deliberately looked at the wall clock and exclaimed, "Oh, look at the time! It's getting late. You should go to bed now!"

The triplets did what they were told. They took turns kissing Neera on her cheek and returned to their respective rooms.

Neera breathed a sigh of relief after they left…

That night, Neera dreamed of that particular night six years ago.

The dream was so vivid she could hear the man's heavy breathing next to her.

She woke up from her dream at three o'clock in the morning, drenched in sweat and panting. For a brief moment, she could not differentiate between reality and fantasy.

For many years, she had not dreamed of the man who had ruined her reputation.

Why did he suddenly appear in her dream again?

She sat on the bed clutching the blanket. It took her a long time to calm down.

Her pajamas was drenched with sweat and clung uncomfortably to her skin. She got out of bed and went to the bathroom.

While she cleaned herself with warm water from the shower, she wondered if she had dreamed of that man because of the incident with Jean.
