Chapter 49 -49: The Jade Token, Can’t You Give It to Me?

Lucas Jennings had previously asked Donovan Jennings for the driver’s address, so it was no surprise to him that Donovan showed up. However, Lucas hadn’t known. When he saw Donovan, he instantly felt like a mouse spotting a cat and instinctively hid behind Scarlett Jennings.

“It really wasn’t my fault this time!”

As he spoke, he didn’t forget to tug on Scarlett’s sleeve, “Sis! Sis, help me explain to Brother Donovan.”

Donovan raised an eyebrow at Lucas’s small gesture and watched as Scarlett truly explained.

“Yeah, it wasn’t his fault.”

Donovan, thinking it wasn’t Lucas’s fault, wondered whose fault it could be and suddenly noticed Azura Loomis lying on the ground nearby.

So, was she the culprit?

Regardless, seeing the seven people lying on the ground before him, he didn’t feel the need to delve any deeper.

As long as everyone was okay.

Soon, an ambulance arrived and took the seven individuals on the rooftop, along with Spring downstairs, to the hospital.

Upon hearing about Azura’s accident, Adam Jennings and Chase Jennings rushed over and, upon learning what had happened and noticing Azura was unconscious while Lucas was unharmed, immediately began to question,

“What happened with you?! Why didn’t you protect Azura while you were out?”

“Azura’s always been so good to you. If you had any conscience, you wouldn’t let anything happen to her. Just wait until Grandma comes back and see how you explain it to her.”

Lucas, who had wanted to recount his thrilling experience to his cousins, was caught off guard by their sudden barrage of questions and accusations. His face turned red with anger as he exclaimed,

“What do you know?!”

“How do you know I didn’t protect her?!”

“Why don’t you ask her what happened at the time…”

Being a teenager, Lucas felt both angry and wronged at being blamed without reason, but he didn’t say more. He merely turned on his heels and angrily ran off.

Adam and Chase thought Lucas was shirking responsibility after doing something wrong and ignored him.

Scarlett, unaware of what was happening in the hospital room, had just visited other rooms and removed the residual Shadow Energy from their bodies.

As she returned, she saw Lucas rushing out of a room in anger and heading into the emergency exit.

Inside the stairwell, Lucas wiped his tears away with the back of his hand.

He wasn’t so sensitive that he couldn’t stand being scolded; he just felt aggrieved and saddened.

Though he had impulsively agreed to compete in the building, he had kept an eye on his surroundings.

When those threads of silk suddenly appeared, none of them had reacted in time.

Seeing someone already getting ensnared, his first instinct was to grab Azura Loomis and run. He even shielded her when the threads almost caught her.

The outcome… at the moment his legs were ensnared, Azura had broken free from his hand and ran.

In contrast, it was Spring who rushed over to help him, and as a result, both of them got ensnared.

How did he break free from those silk threads afterward?

He remembered his sole suddenly feeling hot, and then the threads binding him snapped, allowing him to take the cocooned Spring and run…

The situation was urgent at the time, leaving no opportunity to think more, but now recalling everything, Lucas immediately took off his shoes to inspect them.

He found a layer of black ash on the insole, indicating something had been burned. Upon closer inspection, a small piece of yellow paper was at the corner.

Upon seeing that yellow paper, Lucas instinctively thought of Scarlett’s Yellow Talisman, and the realization seeped in.

His eyes reddened even more.

So, Scarlett had saved him from the start.

Even though she had warned him, he hadn’t listened and insisted on going out with Azura. Instead of getting mad, Scarlett had secretly placed a Yellow Talisman in his shoe to protect him.

Thinking of this, Lucas couldn’t hold back his tears anymore and cried even harder. This time it was out of gratitude.

Besides the protective aspect of the Jade Token, he also wanted her to accept him.

“Sis, sis, can’t the Jade Token be mine?”

Afraid she might refuse, he quickly added,

“I admit I was wrong before, sis. I promise I won’t go against you in the future. Whatever you want me to do, I’ll do it…”

Scarlett looked at him steadily, “Do you truly want it?”

Lucas nodded vigorously.

He wanted it!

Scarlett then extended her hand towards him again, speaking like a cold-hearted accountant,

“The Jade Token is 200,000, plus the reward this time. Four Thunder Talismans make 400,000, totaling 600,000. Bank and PayPal transfers are accepted.”

Considering his previous behavior towards her, rescuing him was already in light of their familial bond. Scarlett naturally wouldn’t undercut the account.

Lucas, aware of his earlier misbehavior, agreed without objection upon hearing the price, even getting a little genius idea,

“All my money is in WeChat, sis. Why don’t we become friends first, and then I’ll transfer it to you?”

Seeing through the young man’s little scheme in one glance, Scarlett didn’t expose him and took out her phone to add him as a contact.

Lucas, noticing the contact request had gone through, visibly brightened up and quickly transferred 600,000 to her without delay.

Scarlett unhesitatingly accepted the payment, her eyes curving slightly upon seeing the credit.

Pleased with the transaction’s revenue, she was also struck by the wealth in the Jennings Family, even among the children. Without blinking, they gave away 600,000.

Tsk.

The two of them returned to the hospital room, where Azura Loomis had already woken up. Upon seeing Lucas, there was a moment of awkwardness, but she quickly regained her composure and smiled while reaching out to him, worry evident in her eyes,

“Little Lucas, I was worried sick when I didn’t see you immediately after waking up. Are you alright?”
