Not Surprised
Beta Dezra’s p.o.v.
Why can’t my Brother leave the Laws and trials alone? Why does he need to listen to those damn Elders?
If someone looks in the wrong direction, I am going to lose everything I have worked so hard for. I never meant for anything bad to happen to my family, but I had to make a few tough decisions and I still don’t regret them.
“Good morning. Is everyone ready for this meeting with the Elders?” Vaughn asks as he walks into our private dining room.
“Why does everyone have to be present?” I ask. I have gone over it, but I can’t find an explanation as to why the Elders want a meeting with the entire Röyal family.
“Elder Jensen wants to get the input of this kingdom’s future leadership and at the moment, we have no idea who will be the next Beta or Gamma. I think it will be good for all our children to experience a meeting with the Elders, future leadership or not.” Vaughn answers.
Elder Jensen has a point. Quinlan is the only one who shifted into a Lycan and it might take a few years before we know who the Beta and Gamma will be.
If my intuition is correct, Dave might become the next Gamma. Everything about Everett tells me that he is a Lycan, while Landon screams Wolf. Let’s hope my instincts are correct and my bloodline will get another chance to rule our Kingdom.
Vaughn couldn’t have cared less if none of his children shifted into Lycans; he would be happy to step out of the spotlight. He has always felt that we were lacking as the Royal family, as did our Father, but most of the Elders who serve us now didn’t serve our Father.
If they had, our Laws might have changed a long time ago. Father was pleased to hear about the new trial and looks forward to this meeting. Father hopes we can rule more like other Kingdoms, to help protect the innocent and weak from the strong.
Father had managed to change only one thing: our succession. He didn’t want a repeat of what happened to Dyala, and the elders agreed with him. We take an oath to ensure that no one will help themselves to a position they don’t have a right to and that no one will help another to get something they aren’t entitled to.
“Let’s go. Everyone is waiting in the Throne room.” Vaughn says. He looks around the room as if he expects one of us to confess to a crime or something.
He has been acting a bit strange since he met with Elder Jensen and I genuinely believe he hasn’t told us everything that he discussed with Elder Jensen.
Vaughn gets out of his seat once Elder Venetia has closed the door behind her. Again, he looks around the room with that same look in his eyes.
“None of you will speak unless you are asked a question.” His order sounds through the Throne room, and now I am convinced something is happening.
After a minute or two, a Squad walks into the room and in seconds, Squad members guard every exit. This was Captain Jordan’s Squad, but he retired after he found his connection. They returned to her Pack and Jordan will take over the Gamma position from her Father.
”
If I remember correctly, the Squad was handed over to a woman from Shadow Valley Pack. I didn’t look into the
rumors, because I didn’t want anyone to find out I have a connection to Shadow Valley Pack.
I watch the Squad Captain as she walks into the Throne room and I am surprised to hear her first question. How

did she discover that some things hadn’t added up when it came to Dyala?
Father is staring at the Squad Captain. She has uncovered the answers he has been looking for and it seems that it didn’t take her long to find them.
The moment I see the broken necklace, I want to jump out of my seat. Darron squeezes my hand; he has seen the same thing I did. How did she get her hands on a picture of the necklace and why is it in three pieces?
I can feel Vaughn’s anger radiating from his body, but he backs off when three Squad members step between us. I will hear more from this, even if today concerns something else.
The file that Elder Zane is reading from sends a shiver down my spine; it not only suppresses the Shifter part, but it might also cause health problems. No one ever suspected that; we all thought it could only suppress the Shifter part and nothing else.
“Now, you all know what happened to Princess Dyala. However, her story doesn’t end there. Her story is connected to another story I want to tell you today, which will have severe consequences for this Kingdom.” The Squad Captain says.
I still don’t know her name, but she doesn’t remind me of anyone I met during my stay at Shadow Valley Pack. Her family might have joined that Pack after I left, which means that my secret is safe.
