Chapter 40
Dating dinner, Harvey turned to Madison and asked, “Do you like the new furniture? We can change it if you’re not into it.”
Before Madison could reply, queenie rested her chin on her hand and sarcastically remarked, “You’re spoiling Madison too much, Harvey. She’s been back for just a bit, and now, she’s getting new furniture again.
“Becky has had the same furniture for over two years. Haven’t you thought about upgradingher set, too?”
Harvey looked over and gazed at Rebecca. “Is that how you feel?”
Rebeccaresponded, “No, Harvey ”
Queenie spoke up for Rebecca, “It’s not Becky’s fault. I’m just sticking up for her. Becky’s your sister, too, so you shouldn’t play favorites.”
Tanya loved Rebecca a lot, and she was worried about the latter getting hurt. So, she quickly reassured Rebecca, “We treat Becky and Maddie equally. If Maddie gets new stuff, Becky will, too. Just tell Mom what you want, and I’ll get it for you,”
Rebecca beamed at Tanya. “You’re the best, Mom!”
William looked at Rebecca with affection. “It’s only furniture. Don’t let it bother you. I’ll get you something better and more expensive. Is that okay, my princess?” “Thanks, Dad. You’re the best”
With a look of admiration, Queenie held her face up with her hands. “Mr. and Mrs. Locke are the best parents ever! I’m so jealous of you, Becky!”
The dining table was filled with laughter and a heartwarming atmosphere.
Harvey furrowed his brows and looked at Madison.
jost sat there quietly, barely saying anything through the entire ordeal. She silently had her meal, as though she wasn’t part of the lively chatter among the Locke family.
Out of nowhere, a mix of guilt and anger washed over Harvey. He slammed his hand on the table, and the dining table went silent right away
Harvey’s eyes were wide as he snapped, “Why all the fuss about changing furniture? Maddie’s getting new stuff because she’s using Rebecca’s used furniture. Seriously, are you really not seeing this, Mom and Dad queenie doesn’t know anything, but you should.
“Becky is one of us, and so does Maddie. Can’t you stop playing favorites?”
Rebecca was flabbergasted, whereas Tanya and William looked upset, Queenie gawked as she huddled in her seat
Rebecca started crying, tears streaming down her cheeks. Sobbing, she pointed at Harvey and said, “I know I’m not part of the Locke family, and I don’t belong here. I don’t want you to fight with Mom and Dad. I’ll just leave now.”
