Wendy stole Plague Compendium and even had the nerve to use her gender to try to get away.
Matthew couldn't contain his anger and snapped, "Spare me the 'I'm a woman' excuse! Tell it to my stool. Let's see if it cares when I smash you with it."
He raised the stool as he spoke. In response, Wendy backed into the corner, trapped with nowhere else to flee.
As the stool was about to hit her, she screamed in terror, "Alan made me steal it!"
Alan? That sounded like an Eastorian. No doubt an Eastorian was always behind it.
However, a hint of doubt crossed Matthew's mind. Why did the Eastorians always know who the successors of medical literature were?
Then, an idea flashed through his mind, and he set down the stool and looked at Wendy. "Tell me everything about Alan. Who is he, and where can I find him? Maybe it'll save your life."
Trembling with fear, Wendy was willing to spill everything if it meant sparing her life. "Alan is an Eastorian. He's here for an exchange program on plague research.
"I got to know him through a friend. He started pursuing me every day, and I said yes eventually. In the beginning, he was really sweet to me—"
Matthew furrowed his brows as he listened. "I'm not interested in your love life. Just get to the point."
Wendy repeatedly nodded. "Here's what happened. He started treating me horribly, and his behavior got more and more disturbing. He even told me to marry Kingston, completely ignoring how I felt.
"He even said he'd enjoyed it more once I became Kingston's wife because he's got a thing for married women. I've never met such a sicko. My luck couldn't be worse—"
Matthew gritted his teeth in exasperation. All he wanted was to track down Alan's location and kill Alan, but Wendy wouldn't stop babbling.
So, he yelled, "You've brought this on yourself! Don't bother me with your love drama. Just tell me where Alan is."
Wendy panicked even more at Matthew's outburst. "H-he is an Eastorian sent here for an exchange program. What difference would it make if you found him?"
Matthew's gaze turned cold. "How I handle it isn't your concern. Now, where is here?"
Wendy pointed in the direction leading to her poultry farm. "Alan is at my poultry farm. He's not just anyone, and he comes from a prominent family in Eastoria—"
Without warning, Matthew reached out and grabbed Wendy by her hair, pulling her up. "Cut the nonsense. Bring me to him now."
