The Great Medical Saint (Matthew) novel Chapter 684

"I'm not hurt, so it doesn't hurt at all." Lorrain insisted.

Matthew's heart ached at the sight. Her soft, delicate skin shouldn't have to endure something like three bloody scratches. Even a tiny prick from a needle would've made her cry out in pain.

But here Lorrain was, suffering quietly, trying to be brave for Matthew.

Matthew gently stroked the skin around Lorraine's wound, feeling a surge of emotion swell up inside him.

His throat tightened as if something was stuck in it, and though he wanted to say something, but no words came.

Overcome with emotion, Matthew scooped Lorrain into his arms and kissed her on the forehead.

Sophia watched the scene with a twisted smile. "Lorraine, saying that now won't do you any good. It's too late. It's no longer just about whether to let Tobby apologize.

"Even if your whole family knelt before me, begging for mercy, it wouldn't matter. I'm going to make sure Matthew ends up in prison. Get ready to see him behind bars."

Lorraine was terrified by Sophia's words. She burst into louder sobs and cried. "Please, please! I told Tobby not to apologize anymore. Don't send my dad to jail. I'm begging you, Mrs. Staphenson!"

Sophia's eyes gleamed with malice. "It was too late. Matthew is going to jail soon!"

Matthew's gaze turned as sharp as a blade, his fists clenching tightly. The thought of killing crossed his mind. But with Lillian and Lorraine beside him, he held back.

Matthew wanted to be a good son, someone Lillian wouldn't have to worry about, and a stronger father that Lorraine could depend on.

Gradually, he relaxed his fists and held Lorraine closer, softly reassuring her. "Lorraine, I will not be going to jail. I'm going to make a call, and I'll let the mayor deal with him."

Just then, Joshua had finished his phone call and overheard Matthew. His face twisted in scorn. "You think that you can call the mayor? Do you even know who the mayor is?

"You're nothing! Even big-shot business owners have to schedule appointments to see Mr. Moore. For you? You wouldn't even get on the waiting list. Please stop dreaming!"
