Matthew chuckled. "Alistair doesn't seem quite clear-headed, so I'm just playing along with him. Does it look convincing?"
Giselle gave Matthew a thumbs-up, nodding in approval. "You acted so well. I almost fell for it, really believing as though you were going to murder someone. Besides saving my son, you even went along with his little play. I really appreciate it."
Alistair lamented to himself that Matthew had truly intended to kill them, so it would naturally look real. But he didn't dare voice it out and just hoped Matthew would leave soon.
Matthew turned to Giselle and said, "Don't mention it. Let's not disturb the doctor in treating him. I'm going home now."
Alistair breathed a sigh of relief. Matthew was finally going to leave.
It was too much to bear. Every second Matthew was around, Alistair felt like he was by the death's door.
Giselle enthusiastically invited, "Thank you for helping us. Let's exchange contact info. I'd like to treat you to dinner in a few days to express my gratitude for saving my son."
Alistair felt his heart jump to his throat. The last thing he wanted was to see Matthew again, yet Giselle was inviting Matthew for dinner. He just hoped Matthew would decline.
Matthew pulled out his phone. "Let's exchange phone numbers. If you're treating me to dinner, I'll definitely show up. Even if I'm busy, I'll make time."
As Matthew spoke, he meaningfully glanced at Alistair.
Seeing Matthew's gaze, he felt a chill run down his spine. Even after Matthew had left, he still hadn't snapped out of it.
As Matthew made his way out of the hospital, he called Caleb, "I got word that the owner of The Misfortune's Veil enjoys pasta and is posing as a cab driver in Lambda City. Have you seen any suspicious cab drivers at the entrance of Lambda City?"
A cab driver?
In a flash, Caleb replayed the footage from Camera 53, as if a screen had appeared in his mind. The footage showed what happened at the north entrance of Silverbrook Village.
Soon, he noticed something unusual. A cab was parked at the village entrance and never took any passengers. Occasionally, someone would open the door to get in but would quickly get out again.
Later on, Matthew appeared at the village entrance. The cab rolled down its window, then raised it again before finally leaving.
