The Great Medical Saint (Matthew) novel Chapter 787

Upon seeing Leopold's reaction, Clement became more worried. "Just focus on staying healthy, Dad. The other things don't matter anymore. Leave it to me. Let's lay low for now. Our family owns plenty of properties. We can take shelter at one of those places and wait out until the danger is over."

Leopold's hair was in a mess, and his face looked gaunt. The spark in his eyes was long gone. His voice was raspy and frail too. He glanced at Clement and muttered, "Coward!"

Among his sons, Vernon was the one most like him—decisive, ruthless, and got things done. Lyndon might be devious, but he was sharp enough to keep the Fuller family running strong. Unfortunately, Vernon and Lyndon were dead, leaving just the disappointing Clement. He couldn't offer much because he was too honest.

It was a dog-eat-dog world. Everything was money-driven with no regard for ethics. Honest people didn't stand a chance.

Clement anxiously asked, "This isn't the time to lecture me. What do we do next?"

Leopold stayed silent. Right then, the maid came in with a doctor. "The doctor's here. Let's get you checked out first."

Leopold gestured at the door with a piercing gaze. "Wait outside for a moment. I'll call you in shortly."

Realizing it wasn't the time to speak, the doctor quickly led the maid out of the room and shut the door on his way out.

Watching the scene unfold, Clement asked, "What do you want to say, Dad?"

Leopold sighed. "Back then, any enemies we came across either didn't have the money or the connections we had. We could deal with them effortlessly.

"Our family has had it smooth sailing all these years, and we could do whatever we wanted. But it seems if you play with fire long enough, you'll eventually get burned. We've run into a tough nut to crack this time."

Matthew was indeed a tough enemy!

Clement was on the same page with that. He felt like something bad could happen at any moment, and it had him on edge. "What's the plan now?"
