After Darius ended the call, he walked out of the door and saw Karina, his wife, typing a message. He walked over and said, "I've already told them to get moving, so you don't need to talk to them again."
Karina put her phone away. "Alright. I hope everything works out. When we get back, you'll become the youngest president of the Fields family."
Darius' eyes lit up. "Once I become the president, you'll be the president's wife. From then on, no one in the Fields family will look down on you again."
Not far away, Gunnar was typing on his phone like he was in the middle of a conversation.
A few minutes later, Gunnar approached Marilyn and sneakily grabbed her butt, whispering, "Do a good job tonight. After we're done, we'll head to the hotel, and I'll reward you. I'll make sure you'll be screaming with joy."
Marilyn grunted. "You're so naughty."
The yard was a mess. Chauncey directed the musicians as the funeral music played, its sorrowful tune filling the air.
The funeral procession crew got to work, using a crane to put the coffin onto the car. The others carried candles and flowers into the car as well.
Tony led the way, heading straight for the Carling family's burial site in Suncroft Village.
By the time they got there, night had fully set in. The headlights of a few vehicles shone brightly as Chauncey directed the burial work.
The funeral home staff put flowers in the grave pit, including lilies, carnations, orchids, hydrangeas, and tulips.
Finally, Chauncey directed the crane to lower the coffin into the grave. In less than ten minutes, the excavator had filled the grave.
Chauncey walked over to Tony and offered his prayers. "May the flowers bring peace and good fortune to the future generations of the deceased's family. Even after Jay's passing, he'll still watch over the future generations."
Chauncey said those things to make the person paying feel better. It was just something he had picked up from the years of doing this job.
When he asked for payment, he got to say that part again.
