Matthew couldn't stand the insults any longer and stepped up, chiding Diego, "Watch your tone!"
He would understand if the security guard refused to let them enter due to the rules of the community, but he couldn't stand the foul words coming out of Diego's mouth.
Matthew had always regarded himself as a peasant, even when he had studied in university because he came from Silverbrook Village. However, he disliked the tone Diego had used when calling them peasants.
Diego sized Matthew up and asked doubtfully, "Who are you?"
Then, Matthew pointed at David with a stern look, saying, "I'm with him!"
Diego displayed a look of realization and said, "Oh, no wonder you're dressed so simply! You must be a peasant, just like him!"
At once, Matthew's expression went dark with anger. Back when he was running a company, everyone would always size up the other before treating them according to how they dressed.
Matthew was donned in branded clothes on a daily basis back then, and even if he bought a secondhand car, it had to be a luxury model. It was all because people would doubt his capabilities and refuse to cooperate with him if he dressed casually.
After he got out of prison, he began to dress much more simply. One of the reasons was that he didn't run a company anymore.
Another important reason was that everyone in Silverbrook dressed very casually, so he would stick out like a sore thumb if he wore branded clothes. He didn't like drawing attention.
Besides, he felt pretty comfortable in his "simple" clothes. Matthew never thought he would get looked down on by a security guard for dressing so, which was why he glared at Diego icily, probing, "What's wrong with dressing up so simply?"
"You can't be serious. Just look at you—a mere peasant and yet you're trying to step into Serenity Oaks Community, where only the wealthy can afford to live," Diego let out scornfully.
At that moment, there came a surprised exclamation. "M-Mr. Grant? What are you doing here?"
Matthew turned in the direction of the voice and noticed a man who seemed to be in his 50s or 60s. It was the same man who claimed that he would never experience erectile dysfunction because he had implanted a bionic genitalia.
In truth, the man actually suffered from it because the friction from the implant made it extremely painful for him. That man was Jerome, who had previously offered ten million dollars for Matthew to heal him.
"Oh, it's you!" Matthew said.
Jerome was extremely overjoyed when he saw Matthew and asked, "What brings you here, Mr. Grant?"
