“You should be visiting the doctor instead of coming to me. I can’t do anything about your condition,” Ethan said while putting his book down.
He knew about Seaside City and why Stephen came to him. Hence, when he spoke, his words carried two meanings.
The first interpretation was literal: Stephen should see a doctor for his cough instead of coming here.
The second was more subtle: Stephen needed to learn how to deal with the problems he had caused, rather than seeking help from him.
Stephen, unfortunately, did not understand Ethan.
His expression turned bitter as he sat down on the couch. “I’m here with good news.‘
Ethan had a look at his face and said, “Hm. I guess it’s really good news. It explains t you have that look on your face.”
“We have decided to let you go,” Stephen said with a cold grunt.
why
Then, he stared at Ethan, hoping to see excitement or gratitude, but all he saw was an expressionless face.
“You seem awfully calm knowing that you can leave.” Stephen could not understand why Ethan could stay so composed at a moment like that.
Ethan answered, “If I want to leave, none of you can hold me down.”
If he wanted to, he had a lot of ways to escape.
“Impossible!” Stephen did not believe him.
Drakthorn Ridge had heavy security, and all visitors must register at the entrance. Guards were also on duty twenty–four–seven, so there was no way Ethan could escape, at least not as easy as he sounded.
He believed Ethan was just pretending.
“I don’t want to waste my time. You’re free to leave, but you have to do something first. Contact Howard Green and tell him to admit what he said earlier is all fake and has nothing to do with me.
“After that, as long as you keep your mouth shut, I will give you not only freedom but some money as well.”
It was actually Simon’s idea. Stephen, on the other hand, would rather see the man locked
for the rest of his life than release him.

Ethan looked at him and said calmly, “No, thank you.”
Stephen’s eyes widened in disbelief. He could not believe what he just heard.
Did Ethan reject the offer? Not only did he reject money but freedom as well!
“Do you know what you just rejected? We’re giving you money and your freedom back. Why did you reject it?”
Ethan answered, “Because I don’t need them.”
Stephen was taken aback for a moment.
No need for money or freedom?
“Have you lost your mind? You don’t want money and freedom. Are you going to spend your life here locked up as a prisoner?”
Ethan smiled. “I don’t need them because I have plenty.
He had no need for money because one word from him and people would be in line to deliver money to him; he had no need for freedom because he would leave whenever he wanted and no one could stop him. In fact, people might even come to save him.
“Besides, this is a good place. The air is fresh, the environment is beautiful, and it’s quiet. It’s a lot better than my old life.”
He stayed in Drakthorn Ridge not because he was locked up but because he enjoyed the place.
