The huge auction hall instantly fell silent at that. All the guests turned their heads to look toward the voice.
The speaker was the young man sitting next to Chief Police Wholeton, Fiona Mandra!
Fiona raised the auction paddle with his right hand.
Unbothered with the gazes of so many people, he looked indifferently at Keith on stage and said, “I bid three million dollars for these medical books.”
After a while, Keith on stage finally reacted and nodded with a smile. “Number 71 offered three million dollars. Is there anyone bidding higher than him? Is there anyone else…”
Before Keith could finish speaking, the head of the Yale family, Sherleen, rose slowly.
She turned to look at Chief Police Wholeton sitting beside Fiona and asked with a fake smile, “Chief Police Wholeton, I didn’t expect you to intervene and compete with me. Do you want to make an enemy of the Yale family?”
Hearing Sherleen’s words, all the guests present gasped.
Sherleen was furious!
The head of the Yale family, Sherleen, was someone who would not take no for an answer. Although she was proud, she rarely spoke aggressively. However, Sherleen yelled at Chief Police Wholeton in front of all these people, which meant she was furious!
It was a big deal!
Gabe was Midwich’s chief police, while Sherleen was the head of the Yale family, one of Midwich’s top four families. It would be chaotic if these two got into a conflict!
Therefore, the people present hastened to persuade them to calm down the impending war.
Sherleen’s expression looked slightly better as she heard the crowd’s remarks. However, Gabe could not be any more upset. It was because he did not even want to fight Sherleen, and Fiona did not even talk to him before raising his paddle to bid.
Everyone present, including the head of the Yale family, Sherleen, thought Fiona was Gabe’s subordinate. Although Fiona raised the paddle, they thought Gabe was the real bidder, which led to this misunderstanding.
Gabe was so helpless that he did not know what to do or what to say to ease the situation. However, Fiona slowly stood up, calmly looked at Sherleen in the first row, and confronted her without backing down.
“Well, lady… I’m the one bidding, not Chief Police Wholeton…” Fiona said calmly.
