Chapter 22
SONIA’S POV
“What’s the festival of alphas?” I questioned Ivy again, because it felt like she didn’t hear me the last time I did.
“Oh, that’s a festival where alphas and some other important members of each of the seven packs representing their packs, gather in one pack to celebrate.”
“To celebrate what?” I asked, observing that it was easier going back than it had been, coming to the lake.
Maybe it was because Ivy had done such a good job clearing the paths. We could now move freely without having to feel the caress of grasses all over our legs.
“Just life and health in general. It’s also used to broker peace. The seven packs sometimes sign a treaty that gives them immunity from being attacked by each other.”
“So how come my father and alpha Ramon are still going at it, despite these peace treaties.”
“That’s because they’re two very strong willed alphas. They both crave domination. It’s bound to happen.
“So even if new peace treaties are signed this year it wouldn’t stop the war?” I asked naively.
“Nope. They’ll keep fighting, and no other packs can intervene. Amongst the big seven, they’re the biggest. Who can intervene?”
“Yeah, you’re right. It sucks though. I wish there could just be peace amongst everyone.”
“So you’ve never experienced a festival of alpha’s? I’m quite certain it has been held in your pack before.”
“I already told you. My father never allowed me to go to any festivities, or even host any guests. I was always indoors.*
“Except the times you sneaked out to help your people in disguise?”
I laughed. “Yeah, except those times. But how do you know it has been hosted in my pack?”
“Because I’m pretty sure Alpha Ramon wanted to be hosted at our pack, last year. He was pretty pissed when it went to your pack. There’s a rumour your pack is also in the lead to host it this year. If it’s true, then I already feel sorry for you in advance. Hoell take it out on you, no questions asked.”
My heart did a double take, as strange sweat began to form a pool on my forehead. “Isn’t it better?” I asked after a brief silence which I used to placate my nervousness.
“What?”
“That it is held in my pack? If it is held here and my family comes, and I can’t even see them, it would break my heart so
much”
“Don’t worry. If it happens that way, I’ll find a way to sneak you in, I promise. Even if it’s after. You have to see your family.” “Would you really do that for me?” I placed my hand on my chest in shock.
“Of course,” she said.
I smiled as we made the round, and came into the compound of our new home.
My body jerked in shock when I saw two hefty men standing side by side.
“Who are they?” I whispered to Ivy.
“Jace and Jake. They’re twins,” she said.

Chapter 22
“Why are they here?”
“You heard her,” Ivy raised her voice as she came to a halt. “Why are you here!”
“The alpha sent us to watch the both of you. He doesn’t want any sneaking out of any kind.” Jace, the twin with the blonde hair
said.
I didn’t know how I knew he was between the two, but my hunch has never failed me, so I always went with it.
“And you two were the best options?” Ivy snickered.
“Watch your mouth, maid,” Jake warned with a growl.
I watched her roll her eyes but otherwise, didn’t speak further.
“Where did you go? We’ve been standing here for over an hour,” Jace asked.
“To get food. Or did they give you food to bring us?” Ivy resumed questioning with a snot in her tone.
“You don’t deserve to eat when you’re such a bitch,” Jake spat.
“Says the” she held back, and shook her head. “Excuse me.” Shooting forward, she walked past them, and entered the house.
There went my dream of staying alone. There were big burly wolves sent to look after us, like hawks. To watch our every move and
report back to the master.
Just when I thought life was about to get simpler.
“You, what are you staring at? Never seen twins before? Or maybe you want to feel the magic of two meats deep inside of you at the same time”
I shuddered at the nasty suggestion, and hurried towards the barren garden. I would rather watch the garden, than listen to these crude men.
“What is she doing?” I heard one of them say from behind, but ignored them.
My curiosity over the barren land had gotten a hold of me. I wondered if it would respond like humans if I decided to treat it.
I dropped to my knees, and brought my ears to the ground. I know it’s crazy, but sometimes, the injuries I heal speak to me. They tell me the best way to be fixed, and all I do is listen to them.
Like right now, I listened in hopes to find out what the problem was, and do my best to fix it…
“Hey, what do you think you are doing?” The twins voices became louder, but I outrightly ignored them and focused on the land.
Suddenly, I felt a slicing pain on my flesh, and I quickly jerked. I jumped to my feet, and stepped away from the land.
It had happened so fast, but what I had just felt was the purest form of horror…
I felt pain like I had never done before. It was as if I had been there as a participant and not just a witness,
Something horrible had happened on the site, hence the barrenness. It was cursed. A huge curse had been placed on it.
I could still feel goosebumps all over my skin as I shuddered at intervals.
