Halsey stood by the window, staring downstairs through the clear glass. His luxury car was parked right there, and Elise was waiting by the side.

When Shaun’s tall, handsome figure appeared, Elise smiled and greeted him, “Mr. Lane, get in.”

Shaun got into the passenger seat, Elise took the driver’s seat, and the car sped away.

He was gone.

Halsey placed her small hand gently on her belly. She was already three months pregnant, and her once-flat stomach now had a soft curve.

She lowered her long lashes, smiled softly, and whispered, “Baby, your daddy’s gone now. Let’s get some rest-we’ll see your daddy tomorrow.”

The next morning, Shaun personally drove to pick up Halsey, and they arrived at the hospital together.

The doctor performed a full prenatal checkup. The baby was healthy.

Halsey glanced at Shaun, who was listening carefully to the doctor. The nervousness, eagerness, and joy of becoming a first- time father showed clearly on his face. Anyone could see how much he loved this baby and how much he wanted it to arrive.

Halsey’s heart softened. She had known all along that Shaun would be a good father.

Shaun said, “Okay, I’ll try.”
