Seeing Jiang Yunchuan unmoved, Jiang Nanshu nudged him.
"Go already, don’t let the girl be sad. Sister Yueyue is standing there, looking like she’s about to shatter."
Jiang Nanshu shook his head sorrowfully.
"The picture of a young woman’s literary pain seems to have walked right out of the pages and into reality."
"Technically, your love line is supposed to be torturous too, so why is it only her suffering? That’s not fair!"
Jiang Yunchuan: "..."
He now felt sick to his stomach whenever he saw Lin Yueyue; her demeanor had the whole school thinking he had heartlessly dumped her.
He just wanted to spare her some dignity, not wanting to make public her affairs with multiple guys—possibly more than four, given how else could she have contracted AIDS.
Some people can’t be held down by money, her heart was insatiable from the beginning. She wanted far more than he could offer, an affluent second-generation still without his own established career, reliant on his family.
In the end, Jiang Yunchuan merely raised his hand and ruffled Jiang Nanshu’s hair: "Yeah, kids shouldn’t worry about adult matters. I’ll handle it."
Jiang Nanshu: "..."
"Get your dirty hands off me! Who’s a kid, anyway? You’re only two years older than me here. What’s there to brag about?"
Jiang Yunchuan’s lips curled slightly, his eyes softened, and he suddenly realized why his older brother liked to ruffle Jiang Nanshu’s hair—it was really very comforting to do so!
Seeing that Jiang Nanshu was on the brink of endurance, he moved his hand just in time and his gaze became icy when it turned to Lin Yueyue.
Originally, he had no wish to bully or warn the girl, but it was clear that Lin Yueyue was determined to squeeze a sum of money out of him—so he wouldn’t be polite.
He walked over to Lin Yueyue, said something to her, and she obediently followed Jiang Yunchuan away.
Jiang Nanshu went to get food and found a seat. In no more than two minutes, Xu Xi put her tray across from her, dragging Xu Xingwan along with her.
Her clear, sharp features were expressionless, but there was softness at the tips of her brows, and she was wearing long sleeves that stood out in the sweltering heat.
But because of her beautiful face, nobody seemed to think it was odd.
"There’s spicy chicken today, Jiangjiang; I got an extra serving for you." Xu Xi said as she handed over the disposable box with the dish.
The day was still sweltering, the heat oppressive, making breathing difficult, especially in the crowded cafeteria. Even the air conditioning was no help against the heat of so many people.
Sweat beaded on Xu Xi’s forehead as she held her chopsticks, her smile warm: "I’m going to start eating. You guys should eat too."
Something softened in Jiang Nanshu’s heart: "Thanks."
"Ah, don’t be so polite with me. I owe you a life-saving debt and can only repay you by being your workhorse." Xu Xi joked, smiling warmly.
After being around Jiang Nanshu for a few days, she had figured her out. Despite appearing indifferent to everything, Jiang Nanshu was actually someone who responded better to tenderness than to harshness.
Easy to coax and pleasant to be around.
If she were really a cold, cruel, and heartless person, she might have just switched to another restroom upon hearing noises, instead of knocking and saving her.
Xu Xi felt a warmth in her heart, Jiangjiang really was kind.
She thought the luckiest thing this year was that she came to Jing University, got to know Jiang Nanshu, and entered her world as a friend.
Seeing Jiang Nanshu enjoying her meal made her happy as well.
