After finishing the call with Director Wen,
Jiang Nanshu found Duan Huaiyu’s number.
She dialed it directly.
The phone rang for two seconds before connecting.
After a two-second silence, the voice hesitated from the other end, "Miss?"
Jiang Nanshu chuckled lightly, responding lazily, "Yeah, it’s me."
"Do you need something?"
Jiang Nanshu yawned, her voice languid, "I’m here to repay you for saving my life. Where are you?"
"Swimming hall, actually never mind, I..."
"I sent you the address by text. Remember to go, it’s an opportunity I secured for you," Jiang Nanshu stated bluntly.
"Miss..." Duan Huaiyu wanted to say something else but ended with a simple, "Thank you."
Jiang Nanshu hung up and texted him the address given by Director Wen.
She had already paved the way for him.
Whether or not he succeeded depended entirely on his own effort and desire.
Director Wen was not a man driven by fame and fortune.
The films he directed didn’t need much publicity, and for theme songs, he only chose those that suited the intentions of the drama, like how he only used new actresses for his female lead roles. He didn’t chase after famous, top-notch stars for theme songs; he just needed what was appropriate.
The weather had been gloomy for days, but now the skies had cleared.
Jiang Nanshu ate breakfast and then brought a recliner out to the yard to soak up the sun.
"Little Auntie!" An excited child’s voice came from beyond the estate.
Jiang Nanshu squinted as she looked over.
There was Shang Xu, wearing a small denim jacket, a white fisherman’s hat, and carrying a little backpack, smiling and waving at Jiang Nanshu.
Behind him stood Lu Junqin.
Her face bore some scabbed scars, but otherwise, she seemed unharmed. Dressed in a long dress with a short jacket, her eyes watched Shang Xu softly.
Jiang Nanshu pressed a button on the remote sitting on the side table next to her, and the estate gate automatically opened.
After they entered, the gate closed automatically behind them.
Shang Xu grinned at Jiang Nanshu, "Little Auntie, I’m off to school."
"Look at my new backpack. It has SpongeBob and Patrick on it."
He lovingly touched it with his little hands.
Jiang Nanshu replied, sitting up straight and ruffling his head, "Hmm, it’s really cute. Congratulations on starting preschool."
Shang Xu blushed, opened his backpack’s zipper, and took out his talking toy diamond, "I’m giving this to you to thank you for helping me and my mom."
His tender, dumpling-like face brightened with a shy smile as he whispered, "Little Auntie, that’s just... if you stop liking my little uncle, just wait till I grow up."
His eyes sparkled.
Jiang Nanshu was amused by his childlike speech, "Okay, I’ll wait."
Lu Junqin shook her head helplessly, pinched Shang Xu’s little face, and gently said, "Go play over there. I have something to discuss with your future little aunt."
Shang Xu obediently walked away to play with mud elsewhere.
Lu Junqin’s smile faded, and with pursed lips, she bowed to Jiang Nanshu, "Thank you. It was you who saved Xiao Xu, keeping that man from sending him away. Thank you for appearing that night."
Lu Junqin simply couldn’t imagine what would have happened if Jiang Nanshu hadn’t shown up that night.
Shang Xu would have been taken by Shang Chi to a place she could not find and tortured.
