She pouted in mock dissatisfaction, "You’ve already cleaned up, what else do you expect me to do?"
"Just watch me clean?" Lu Qingyan joked.
He walked forward and took her hand, "These are trivial matters. As your boyfriend, it’s my duty to take care of you when you’re alone outside."
Jiang Nanshu gave him a strange look, her cheeks slightly reddened, "Isn’t that too much trouble? You could hire a maid to take care of me. You have to manage the company and take care of me as well. It’s exhausting."
"I don’t feel comfortable entrusting you to anyone else," Lu Qingyan said nonchalantly.
Jiang Nanshu: "..."
[You’re not being overprotective, are you! I heard from your cousin this house is yours. I’m just waiting for you to be honest with me, hmph.]
Lu Qingyan’s thumb caressed the delicate back of Jiang Nanshu’s hand, wanting to imprint his scent on her.
He didn’t know since when,
he desired to control Jiang Nanshu’s life, infiltrate every aspect of it, monopolize her existence, creating a dense web that bound her to depend on him, get accustomed to him, unable to leave him.
It was akin to the principle of boiling a frog in warm water.
Jiang Nanshu shyly glanced at him, "Sweet talker."
[Keep treating me this well, and turn me into a useless person. If you dare fall for someone else in the future, I’ll kill your lover first, then you, hmm, perfect.]
Darkness shadowed the depths of Lu Qingyan’s eyes, which quickly softened as he smiled warmly like a spring breeze, "I’m telling the truth, I like you, so I can’t let go of you."
Embarrassed, Jiang Nanshu pulled him towards the exit, "I get it, I get it."
Lu Qingyan took her to the Delai Hotel.
From the presidential suite on the top floor, they could overlook the entire night view of Beijing.
The room’s soft Persian carpet was covered with rose petals, making Jiang Nanshu feel as though she was in a sea of flowers.
[Are you sure this is for my birthday? You’re not planning to propose, are you...]
Next to the huge floor-to-ceiling window, a table was set, and no sooner had they sat down than a waiter wheeled in a dining cart.
It held an expensive bottle of Lafite and two exquisite Western dishes. The waiter even thoughtfully lit a candle on the table before leaving.
The room’s dim lighting allowed the candlelight to dance across Lu Qingyan’s handsome features.
"A candlelight dinner?" Jiang Nanshu inquired.
Lu Qingyan gently blinked, his smile tender, "Nannan, look outside."
The sky, not yet completely dark, began raining roses, making the whole of Beijing seem submerged in a sea of flowers. Jiang Nanshu stood up, struck by the breathtaking view before her.
She turned to Lu Qingyan, stunned, "Is this for me?"
Lu Qingyan gazed at her tenderly, "Yes."
"Bang!"
Colorful fireworks suddenly exploded outside the window.
Jiang Nanshu turned to watch, her eyes filled with unmistakable shock and admiration.
The fireworks bloomed in the sky, illuminating Beijing, the city that never sleeps.
They also reflected in Jiang Nanshu’s eyes, the slight redness at the corners barely noticeable in the dim environment.
Lu Qingyan’s peach blossom eyes curved into a soft arc, "This is the first time I’m giving a girl a birthday gift. I wanted to make an impression, feared it wouldn’t be romantic enough, and decided after much thought to let you watch a fireworks feast. This city’s brilliance, all of these are my blessings to you, deep, abundant, and bright."
Jiang Nanshu’s lips curved slightly, her eyes tearing up as she smiled, "Thank you, this is the most special gift I’ve ever received. Thank you for showing me such a unique fireworks display."
She circled the table and threw herself into his arms, "Lu Qingyan, I love you."
She tilted her head back, pushed him against the glass, and, under the reflection of the fireworks, tiptoed and fiercely kissed his lips, "Please entangle with me till death in this life."
She laughed through her tears, "I won’t give you a chance to escape. In this life, you can only love me."
Jiang Nanshu’s confession was both sincere and passionate.
Like her kiss, it was fierce, overwhelming, and utterly disarming.
Lu Qingyan initially managed to maintain some rationality, but later, he was completely led by Jiang Nanshu.
