Chapter 5
Megan froze where she stood. Her expression was one of shock. It was as if she simply couldn’t believe what she had just heard.
Well, who could blame her? Harley had always spoken to her gently, never raised his voice, and never said anything harsh. He was always afraid she might feel hurt.
Even I was taken aback by how sharp his tone had just been.
Perhaps realizing he had gone too far, Harley softened slightly and said to Megan in a calm voice, “This is between me and her. It’s not your place to interfere. “You should go back for now.”
But Megan refused. “Harley, did you forget? I can’t stay at my rental for now…”
“If your place is unlivable, go to a hotel. You’re an adult. Don’t tell me you can’t even solve your own problems.
“What do you expect me to do–magically conjure up a new apartment for you?”
His tone was cold, and it showed no sympathy. But I noticed the subtle glance he shot Megan.
He thought he was being discreet, but he didn’t know I’d already found out that he had secretly bought a small house in the suburbs. Megan clearly understood the signal.
She pouted, pretending to be wronged, and quietly slipped the keys from the pocket of Harley’s coat hanging on the rack into her bag before walking out the door. Even then, I didn’t expose their little scheme.
After all, I no longer cared about either of them. And even if I did, calling it out wouldn’t change anything.

“But there’s nothing between her and me. I only felt sorry for her since she’s all alone in this city. As her boss, I thought I should help her out.
“I admit that being close to her might have provoked you, but still, we’re the ones who are married. Everything I’ve done… it was to push you to become better.”
