"Jingwan!"
In the joyous bridal room, Zhou Jingwan sat silently on the wedding bed under a red veil, as Daohua sneaked in.
Zhou Jingwan lifted a corner of her veil, saw Daohua, and her face instantly brightened, "Yiyi!"
Daohua walked up to Zhou Jingwan, looking her over with a smile, "You look truly beautiful today."
Zhou Jingwan glared playfully at her, "You’re not making sense again!" she said as she shifted to the side, gesturing for Daohua to sit, "How did you get here?"
Daohua sat down, following the invitation, "I was afraid you might be bored." She glanced at the pastries on the wedding table and quickly brought some over, "You must be hungry, have some to fill your stomach."
Seeing no one else was in the room, Zhou Jingwan hurriedly picked up a pastry and started to eat, speaking as she did, "I haven’t eaten anything all day, I’m starving."
Noticing Zhou Jingwan still holding her veil, Daohua reached out, lifting the veil over her head to free her hands, "Eat some more."
Zhou Jingwan nodded hastily, but after one piece, she stopped eating.
Daohua, surprised, asked, "Why aren’t you eating anymore?"
Zhou Jingwan looked at Daohua, "Yiyi, I’m really nervous."
Daohua patted her hand, "It’s normal for a bride to be nervous—all brides go through this. It’ll pass."
Zhou Jingwan hesitated a moment, "Yiyi, do you think... my father-in-law and mother-in-law will like me?"
Daohua replied, "Of course, they liked you a lot when you visited my home before."
Zhou Jingwan, "But... didn’t our family reject Third Brother before?"
Daohua reassured, "My uncle and aunt aren’t petty; you can relax."
Just as Daohua was about to say more, loud noises came from outside.
Daohua immediately stood up, "It must be my Third Brother and the others coming to tease the bridal room." Saying this, she quickly returned the pastries to their place and helped Zhou Jingwan fix her veil.
"Jingwan, I’ll go out first."
Daohua intended to leave through the door, but hearing people approaching, she knew she’d face them if she went out that way.
Spotting the wide-open window, Daohua hurriedly ran to it.
Zhou Jingwan, lifting her veil, saw Daohua about to climb through the window without surprise, only whispering a cautious, "Be careful not to fall."
Daohua had climbed onto the window sill and nodded to Zhou Jingwan. Just as she was about to jump down, she saw Xiao Yeyang standing a meter away, arms crossed, watching her.
Hearing the door of the bridal room being opened, Xiao Yeyang quickly moved forward to catch Daohua and hastily closed the window.
"Why are you here?" Daohua asked.
Xiao Yeyang, "I was looking for you everywhere and guessed that you must be here with your sister-in-law."
Daohua smelled the strong scent of alcohol on him and frowned, "Why have you drunk so much?"
Xiao Yeyang replied, "Drinking on behalf of your Third Brother."
Daohua just said "Oh," then added, "That makes sense."
Xiao Yeyang gave her a look, thinking if it weren’t for the need to have Wentao help him drink at his own future wedding, he wouldn’t have bothered.
Meanwhile, a loud, spirited noise came from inside the room.
Daohua, hearing this, quickly turned and opened a small crack in the window, then eagerly watched Yan Wentao and Zhou Jingwan, blushing as they drank their wedding toast.
"Do you prefer more people around or fewer?"
Daohua, startled, turned back to look at Xiao Yeyang in confusion, "What do you mean by more or fewer people?"
Xiao Yeyang nodded toward the bridal room, "During the teasing of the bridal chamber."
