Chapter 7
Afterward, I never learned how Ethan disposed of Isabella, only that Riley disappeared along with her.
Worsening morning sickness and a precarious mental state left me barely able to care for
myself.
After being stabbed, Ethan spent half a month in the hospital.
The day he was discharged happened to be his 27th birthday.
Others‘ gifts filled the living room, but he didn’t spare them a glance, rushing to me instead, demanding his gift.
“You’ll see tonight.” I was brief.
He seemed to misunderstand, growing excitedly animated.
In the bathroom, I took a razor blade and cut along the blue veins in my wrist.
Then I lay in the bathtub filled with warm water, quietly waiting for life to ebb away.
When Ethan burst in, seeing the tub full of crimson, he gasped in terror.
His hands shook as he called emergency services.
“Your 27th birthday gift… do you like it? I’m finally about to be tortured to death by you.”
I congratulated him with my breath growing faint.
Ethan crawled to the tub on his knees, gripping my bleached–white hand, murmuring almost deliriously.
“Don’t sleep! Baby, don’t sleep!”
“Wake up! Please! I beg you to live!”
By the end, he was crying uncontrollably.
Chapter 7
When I woke, I was surrounded by blinding white.
Ethan sat at the bedside, quietly working, the dark circles under his eyes revealing sleepless
nights.
Seeing me awake, his dull eyes lit up.
“You’re awake! How do you feel? Does anything hurt?”
I ignored his concern, simply raising my freshly scabbed wound before him.
“You’ve always complained about the scar I left you. Now we’re even. Can you please… let
me go?”
He struggled to suppress the choke in his throat, forcing an uglier–than–crying smile.
“You know that’s the one thing I can’t give you…‘
Fighting the pain, I grabbed the glass beside me and threw it at him.
“Get out! I don’t want to see you!”
Water droplets trickled down his handsome face, soaking the laptop on his legs.
In the past, he would’ve likely made me kneel and apologize.
But now, he merely wiped his face calmly, instructing his assistant to repair the computer.
“Don’t get excited, Olivia. If you don’t want to see me, I’ll leave. The doctor says you’re weak, with a baby in your belly, and shouldn’t get angry.”
With that, he tucked my blanket tighter and quietly left the room.
Seeing the once–domineering Ethan become so cautious and timid, a small crack opened in my ice–cold heart.
From that day on, I truly never saw Ethan again.
I would only hear the quiet click of the door lock late at night.
