Chapter 2
He said he just needed a respectable wife to please his family, but didn’t want me in the public eye. I could only leave the house twice a week.
I agreed to that too.
And so, my five years were spent confined in this massive mansion.
As for Ethan, I think I loved him, which is why I willingly accepted this “imprisonment,” even enjoyed it.
I even wanted to be his wife for life, but he never touched me, never let me into his
bedroom.
Until one day, when he wasn’t home, I sneaked into his room and finally understood–he
had always loved someone else.
That person was Faye–his childhood neighbor, five years younger than him.
In the past, I never minded how many women Ethan brought home. I thought they were
just substitutes, one–night stands. At least I held the title of Mrs. Stone.
Until yesterday, when I saw Faye, saw Ethan bring her into that bedroom I hadn’t been
allowed to enter for five years. That’s when I realized it was time for me to leave.
“Olivia?” Ethan’s impatient voice broke my thoughts. “What are you thinking about?”
“Didn’t you say I’m useless? I’m thinking about finding a job–maid, cleaning lady-” I paused, turned to face him, and said seriously, “It’s been five years. I haven’t committed any crime that requires continuous imprisonment, have I?”
As Ethan frowned, about to say something, Faye walked in wearing a Dior mini skirt that
was a limited edition for the season.
For five years, Ethan had bought limited edition designer clothes annually, never giving them to anyone, just leaving them in the closet until they went out of style, then throwing
them away to buy new ones.

This year, these clothes finally found their owner.
“I didn’t realize you knew my size so well. These fit perfectly!” She twirled, smiling.
“Do you think I’m beautiful??”
Ethan took Faye’s hand, his typically cold eyes now filled with love.
He nodded. “Of course! I’ll buy you anything you want.”
They kissed right in front of me.
Faye pushed Ethan away, feigning embarrassment.
“There’s someone else here… Olivia, don’t you think the clothes Ethan picked for me look
good?”
The expensive, exquisite dress did look beautiful on young, pretty Faye.
I nodded, genuinely complimenting her. “They look lovely.”
Faye clearly hadn’t expected this response and froze momentarily.
Ethan’s brow furrowed almost imperceptibly.
I used this opportunity to leave the kitchen.
Compared to watching those two flirt and bicker with each other, I had much more
important things to do.
The divorce agreement would take effect in a week. I needed to pack my things and move
out of this mansion before then.
Back in my bedroom, I was looking at apartments on Zillow when Ethan pushed the door
