Balfour didn’t care what they ate. He just wanted to spend some more time with his sister and her kids.

The kids enjoyed their uncle’s company, and with him helping to entertain them, she could sneak in a little rest. 

But Byran wasn’t thrilled. With his brother around, he felt restricted. 

How was he supposed to act affectionate towards Ida with his brother watching? He’d surely get a scolding. 

So, when Chase set down the coffee and went back to the kitchen to cut up some fruit, Byran followed him in to confront him. 

“Hey! What’s your deal? Why’d you keep my brother around? You’re not even friends with him!” 

Chase grabbed some fruit from the fridge as a smirk played on his lips. “Byran, I wouldn’t exactly call us friends either. So, what are you doing here?” 

Byran’s face stiffened. “I… I’m not here because of you!” 

Chase washed the fruit in the sink. “Right! You’re here for our Ida, aren’t you?” 

Byran crossed his arms. “Of course I am!” 

Chase chuckled. “But you just told your brother that a friend is getting married, so you’re staying here to celebrate. I didn’t mishear, did I?” 

Byran’s face turned a shade of red from embarrassment. He had indeed said that. 

“Cough! So what if I did? When I’m with Ida, I consider her friends my friends. Besides, I’ve known Belinda for many years, so we’re practically friends.” 

Before Chase could say anything, Belinda entered the kitchen. “Byran, I wouldn’t exactly call us friends. Don’t flatter yourself.” 

Byran glared at her. “Belinda… Humph! As if I care about having you guys as friends! Ida is all I need!” 

Belinda brutally hit at his pride. “Hmm, I wonder if Ms. Gipson feels the same way about you.” 

Byran looked stern, then lifted his chin confidently. “Of course she doesn’t see me as a friend because she sees me as her husband.” 

Chase and Belinda snorted and giggled uncontrollably. 

Byran was annoyed and a bit embarrassed. “What are you laughing at? What did I say wrong?” 

“Everything is wrong.”
