Chapter 1786
“Swear?” Tracy scoffed. “Your oath means nothing to me! If what you’re saying were true, you wouldn’t be standing in my house right
now!
And your daughter, Ellinor, isn’t here anymore. If you got any issues, go to the Blanchet family. And what on earth are you all dressed up for? You’re just trying to steal my husband, aren’t you?”
Marlinie felt wronged. Dressed up? She had rushed to catch a plane and didn’t even have time to wash her face, let alone comb her hair. Her clothes were just hastily thrown on before she rushed out the door.
Realizing that Tracy was suspicious by nature, Marlinie decided not to argue. “Mrs. Mendoza, if you don’t want me to see your husband, that’s fine. But I have some questions that only he can answer. Just give me his number. I’ll call him, clear things up, and then I’ll leave.”
Tracy crossed her arms. You want my husband’s number? Dream on! I’m not giving it to you. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll leave now! Or else, don’t blame me for being rude!”
Marlinie was at a loss for words. Why was this woman so irrational?!
Just then, Bertha and her daughter, who had been taken to the bathroom by Sheila, returned.
Lea had heard the last bit of Tracy and Marlinie’s conversation and came in to stand up for her. “Old Lady, are you seriously so possessive of your old husband? Do you think every woman wants to steal him away? That’s just hilarious! I saw your family picture downstairs. That balding, potbellied man is only a treasure in your eyes! Ms. Marlinie wouldn’t even bat an eyelid at him!”
Tracy was instantly annoyed when she heard Lea call her “old lady.”
“Who’s child is this? She’s so ill-mannered! Who taught you to talk to adults like this?”
Lea rolled her eyes. “I’m ill-mannered? At least I’m not as rude as your daughter, who locks guests in a room like this!”
“You…” Tracy was taken aback.
Sheila, who had entered behind them, heard Lea and immediately pushed her. “Who are you talking about? You little brat! Who gave you the right to judge me?! It’s because you have no shame! You people are trying to seduce my dad! You think I enjoy having to lock you up?! I just had to!”
Lea, a small girl, received a sudden push from behind by Sheila. She stumbled a few steps but managed not to fall thanks to the quick reactions of Bertha and Marlinie.
“Sweetie, are you okay?” Bertha crouched down to hold her daughter. Concern was written all over her face.
Lea was startled, but she shook her head and then glared at Sheila.
After steadying Lea, Marlinie stood up to confront the Mendozas. “What do you think you’re doing? Why would you attack a child?”
Sheila was nonchalant. “Why? She insulted me, and I didn’t like it! What’s wrong with pushing her a bit? She’s such a young child and yet so ill-mannered. If you don’t teach her manners, I will!”
Marlinie realized none of the Mendozas were reasonable people. She could only imagine what her daughter must have endured living with them. Regret was coursing through every part of her body.
