The Kiss that Sparked it All (Ellinor and Theo) novel Chapter 2765

The boss kept pressing, and Ahab wore a pained expression. "Boss, I admit I messed up. Can you find it in your heart to forgive me? I just lost my cool, but I promise it won't happen again."

Regina snorted, her laughter tinged with ice. Another chance? In his wildest dreams.

The thing that really got her goat was recalling how Ahab had followed her one night to the Harris Group's old warehouse. When some drunk started harassing her, Ahab didn't lift a finger to help. Instead, he thought he'd struck gold, thinking he had something on her. It was laughable.

The guy had a story served up on a silver platter, and he blew it, choosing to pen some nonsense that made about as much sense as a screen door on a submarine.

"Boss, Ahab submitting work anonymously to other publications—that's against company policy, isn't it?"

The other women in the office had it out for him, too. And with this latest slip-up, they were chomping at the bit to show him the door.

Ahab bristled. "What's it to you what I write? Are you miffed you didn't make the cut? Who do you think you are, calling the shots around here?"

"You!" The woman slammed her hand on the table, her face turning beet red with anger. "You screw up, and yet you stand there all high and mighty. Boss, are you really gonna let this slide? Does New Blossom Press even care about its rules?"

"Boss, is this really worth making a fuss over? I get that I messed up. Plus, I've been with New Blossom Press for years. I've put in my time, blood, sweat, and tears. Getting fired out of the blue... how am I supposed to explain that at home..."

But they overestimated him. Ahab didn't have the guts, and with his scrawny frame, he was no match for the boss, who was still sturdy even past fifty.

"Go ahead, make the call. Right here, in front of me. If your uncle says no, I'll march to the executive office and make sure you stay."

Ahab looked at him, suspicion etched on his face. He couldn't fathom the boss's confidence. After all these years, who would dare to touch him?

Regina felt a twinge of doubt. Their boss didn't have the kind of backing to be so sure of himself. What had changed today?
