Elias said, "He'll interfere, but there's a price to pay."
"What do you mean?"
Yacob recalled Jack being oblivious to everything. The older man would attend the board meetings, but he usually wouldn't have a hand in the company's affairs. As such, it was difficult to know what was on his mind.
"You'll find out soon."
When they arrived at the room, Yacob opened the door. Jack had been waiting for them, and there was a hint of impatience on his face. Nevertheless, he remained calm and collected.
Yacob closed the door while Elias sat down across from the older man and said politely, "I'm sorry for being one minute late, Mr. Allegra."
Jack picked up his cup and took a sip of tea. "If you came any later, I would've left. You know I hate waiting for people. Regardless of who the person is, I won't wait for one more second."
"But you still waited for me. It shows that I'm worth the wait because there's something I can do for you. Am I right?" Elias curled up his lips.
He had always been sedated in the business world, which was unlike how hot-tempered he was in private. That was something his grandfather and father had taught him—to remain calm in the business world. Otherwise, he would only screw things up.
The smile on Jack's face widened as he fiddled with the delicate porcelain teacup in his hand. "It seems that you're well-prepared. In that case, I won't beat around the bush. I know what you want, and I'm sure you also know what I want."
Yacob frowned, not understanding what the two of them were talking about. He couldn't figure out what Jack wanted. Worried that he might miss out on some important details, he listened to them attentively.
After a moment of silence, Elias glanced at the shrewd older man before his eyes.
His face stiffened as if he had made a difficult decision. "I'll agree to the marriage. Since my grandfather and father are no longer around, you'll take charge of the wedding. I'm fine with anything."
Upon hearing that, Yacob plunged into disbelief.
A marriage? Is this what Mr. Allegra wants? Does he want his daughter and Mr. Winters to marry? What about Amanda and Aiden?
Yacob was dumbfounded at that moment. He turned to look at the expressionless Elias, wondering what was on his mind. Is he really going to betray Amanda by marrying Mr. Allegra's daughter?
After getting a definitive reply, Jack put on a smile. "It's decided, then, my future son-in-law. Marriage is the best decision for both of our families. I'm aware of your previous marriage, but it's no big deal. Successful businessmen tend to have interesting private lives. My daughter and I won't mind it. What we want is collaboration and mutual success. Keep that in mind and don’t let your love affairs ruin your future."
"I know, so there's no need to remind me. I'm fully aware of the situation after the death of my father and grandfather. I have to take back control of the Winters Enterprise before any good-for-nothing ruins it."
He had to retrieve the shares that Anna snatched as soon as possible.
Jack nodded with satisfaction. "You're indeed a clever young man." He then took a look at the wristwatch and said, "Alright, that's it. I'm going to meet my friends, so I'll take my leave now. Come over tomorrow to talk about the wedding. By the way, my daughter is returning to the country in two days. Help me pick her up and also get to know her better."
With that, Jack got to his feet and left.
When the door was closed, the last bit of politeness on Elias' face disappeared. As a sense of exhaustion swept over him, he closed his eyes and pressed his hand against his forehead.
He had made up his mind, and he wasn't playing hard to get. The death of his grandfather had a huge impact on him.
Moreover, he felt that he couldn't bring happiness to Amanda. Instead, he would only cause her to suffer endless grievances. If Amanda became his wife again, she would go through a lot of hardship. Furthermore, she had never promised that she would get back with him.
At the thought of this, Elias appeared downcast.
It was pointless to keep pestering the woman, and he didn't have any time to continue doing that. There were many things he had to deal with, including taking control of the Winters Enterprise.
Upon hearing his words, Yacob, too, fell into deep thoughts. He had no idea if Elias had indeed pulled himself together or was playing hard to get.
Nevertheless, Elias didn't seem to be in the mood to play any games. The company was a mess, and those from the board were trying to make things difficult for him by competing for dominance.
"Let's go." Elias got up from the chair.
Yacob asked, "Where to?"
"I'm going to see my son. I haven't seen him for a few days, and I miss him." In fact, he also wanted to see Amanda because he missed her too.
Without saying anything, Yacob left the room with Elias.
