The Lawyer’s Romance in Law novel Chapter 362

Chapter 362 It’s Okay, I’ve Got You

Later, Amanda and Elias arrived at the prison’s visitation room. The prison guard led Raymond out. At this point, the gardener had already been handcuffed and there was no concealing the lifeless expression on his face.

His head hung low as he sat across from them, lost in his thoughts.

Amanda looked at the man in front of her as she questioned in a professional tone, “Are you really going to take the blame for that person? Are you content with the result?”

Alas, Raymond remained silent as he stared at the handcuffs on his wrists and said nothing.

“Are you so devoted to taking the blame for that person because you have nothing left to lose? Do you truly believe that person will cure your wife’s illness for you?”

Unfortunately, it didn’t matter what Amanda said, he continued to keep his head down as if he were a statue. One might even suspect he indeed was a statue if it weren’t for the slight rise and fall of his shoulders as he breathed.

“Raymond Porter, I’m talking to you!” She couldn’t help flipping out. “Can’t you hear me? Answer me!”

“I have nothing to say, Miss Bailey. I did it all. There’s no need to probe further or use any tricks. It was all me.” He refused to confess, and he even tried to leave.

In all honesty, she was on the verge of blowing up. She had never once felt so powerless before as she was unable to communicate with the litigant as a lawyer, for the person refused to communicate.

Next to Amanda, Elias simply smirked and finally spoke up, “Tell us why you did it, then.”

“Because I had admired Miss Stephanie for a long time, so I had ill intentions and couldn’t help but make all the mistakes-” Raymond spoke the rehearsed lines as if reciting from a textbook.

So, Elias interrupted him bluntly in a rather scathing tone, “Enough. Save your lies for the

kids.”

After that, Raymond returned to silence, keeping his head down and not uttering another word. It seemed that there was nothing left in this world that was worth cherishing for him.

When Elias saw that Raymond was insistent on being the scapegoat, he checked his wristwatch for the time, only to frown and mumble, “What’s taking him so long?”

“Sorry? Whom are you waiting for?” Amanda looked puzzled, but Elias only said, “You’ll find

out in a moment.”

She felt utterly baffled by his actions. At the same time, she was also feeling completely exasperated regarding the middle-aged man before her. So, she tried to persuade him earnestly. “Sir, you need to think things through. You are letting the real culprit get away while you take the blame for him…”

“I am not taking the blame for him. I did it, Miss Bailey. Thank you for your kindness, but I will bear the consequences of my actions. Now, please leave,” Raymond said as he rose to his feet.

Unexpectedly, Elias spoke up, “Do you really think he will cure your wife’s illness for you? Even if he does fulfill his promise, I can always sabotage his efforts.”

Raymond immediately halted in his tracks upon hearing Elias’ cruel words and froze in place.

Elias looked at his rigid back and continued with a drawl, “Can the person you’re covering for fight me? If he can’t, then be prepared to bury your wife.”

Raymond was wholly triggered at this point, and he turned around, slamming both hands on the table, yelling at Elias, “How dare you! Leave my wife out of this! This has nothing to do with her!”

Amanda was startled by his rage and instinctively clutched Elias’ arm.

Meanwhile, Elias remained entirely composed as he embraced her in return. Then, he simply said reassuringly, “It’s okay. I’ve got you.”

She was rendered speechless by his actions. It was such a crucial moment! Couldn’t he take things seriously for once in his life?

Then, he calmly raised his eyes to look at Raymond as he replied, “What do look like I’m joking?”

think? Do I

On the other hand, Elias was relieved to see how enraged Raymond was, for it clearly meant that his wife was his weakness.

“I will give you a piece of my mind if you dare touch my wife!” Raymond wanted nothing more than to beat Elias up right then and there. Alas, the prison guard beside him pulled him back, shouting, “What are you doing, Porter?!”

Elias wore a faint smile on his lips as he spoke the most ruthless words, “Does your wife matter if you like Stephanie? She’s bedridden, and you’d rather go to jail than take care of her. Do you even care about her?”

“Don’t you dare touch my wife! I won’t let you off the hook if you dare touch her!” Raymond

roared, after which the prison guard immediately seized the moment to tase the prisoner for resisting capture and to subject him to a painful electric shock, causing him to collapse weakly to the ground.

Still, Elias continued to provoke him. “Oh, rest assured, I will definitely harm her. You can’t do anything in jail. All that’s left is between me and the person you’re covering for. If you think he can’t defeat me, it’s better to admit the truth quickly, or your wife will become the sacrificial pawn in this struggle.”

“You guys can fight all you want, but why should my wife be dragged into this mess, you b*stard?!”

Raymond had practically indirectly admitted that he was taking the blame for someone else. Nonetheless, he hadn’t realized what he had said yet as tears flowed uncontrollably down his cheeks. Perhaps his tears were due to the pain of the electric shock or out of sheer concern for his wife’s safety.
