Livin had been abroad for years, and her sudden return vs sand to be dis to a breakup with her long–time boyfriend in that country 

Years ago, she had defied her parents for Antonio, but the class differews between them ultimately led them to break up 

Her sudden return meant she hadn’t yet purchased many daily necessities or even furnishings. 

So Antonio took Grace to help out 

Grace didn’t want to go, but since her resignation was still in process and Antonio was still her boss, she had no reason to refuss
