The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 101

"I know you're saying all this just to get under my skin," Abigail said, taking a deep breath. She kept her cool, her eyes steady on me. "Where are you headed? I'll give you a ride."

I let out a bitter laugh and shook my head.

"You don't have to put up this whole lovey-dovey act in front of everyone. After all the drama with Joshua, who doesn't know that things between us are a mess? The more you fake it, the more people will talk. Unless, of course, you don't care at all."

I looked back at her calmly, searching her face for some reason as to why she insisted on doing this. Was she done with Joshua and now planning to use me to kick him to the curb?

But instead of answering, Abigail just laughed. Her gaze locked onto mine, intense and unwavering. Then, she threw me off completely by asking, "Samuel, who's prettier—me or Blair?"

I frowned, unsure why she'd mention Blair now. Her words stirred up memories of Blair confessing her feelings to me, and out of nowhere, I felt a pang of guilt.

Taking a deep breath, I shook my head and muttered something totally dishonest, "Both of you look awful."

Abigail burst out laughing. Her expression didn't change as she started the car and drove off.

The exhaustion from the past few days hit me hard, leaving my whole body sore. The car's bumping motion only made my eyelids heavier. I leaned back into the seat, and before I knew it, I drifted off.

When I opened my eyes again, we were parked outside my rented apartment. Abigail's jacket was draped over me, and she sat beside me, dozing off.

When we were a happy couple, she used to do this all the time—clinging to me and saying that being close was the only way she could feel my love and believe that we were truly in love.
