"Let me lay it out for you, Samuel." Joshua smirked, a mocking glint in his eyes. "It was my idea to have Abigail give me that pin and refuse to give you the money for Kayla's treatment.
"I told her that Kayla's illness was a bottomless pit—it wouldn't help her anyway, so why waste the money?" He sneered, tilting his head. "If she still cared about you, do you think she would have ignored Kayla's life just to please me?
"Oh, and that charity project for medical research—that was my suggestion too. I told Abigail to cancel it because I wanted her to fund my film instead. Once I make it big, I'll bring in way more money than some charity project ever could."
He leaned in closer, his tone dripping with disdain as he continued, "What's the point of helping those people? They're just going to die eventually. What's their gratitude worth even if you save a few of them? Is it going to make her any richer?"
Joshua straightened up, and his voice was almost casual now as he said, "Samuel, think about it. Is there any reason to keep this marriage going?"
I stared at him, stunned. The truth hit me like a freight train.
Kayla had died because Joshua had convinced Abigail not to fund her treatment. The research for her fellow patients had been scrapped because of his manipulative schemes.
With just a few words, Joshua had sealed the fates of countless people and destroyed their lives without a second thought.
Each of his smug sentences cut deeper than the last, like knives twisting into wounds I thought couldn't hurt anymore.
My chest tightened, and I gasped for air as the overwhelming pain nearly blinded me. Dizziness swept over me as the ward began to spin.
"Samuel! Are you okay?"
George rushed to my side, catching me before I collapsed and helping me back onto the hospital bed.
Blair was livid. She pointed a trembling finger at Joshua and Joanna as she shouted, "What the hell are you still doing here? Get out—now!"
