It felt as though everything that was happening before my eyes was a part of a dream.
I took a deep breath and tried to speak, but when I opened my mouth, I coughed up blood instead.
Seeing this, Abigail panicked right away. She quickly got up, intending to call a nurse or doctor to examine my condition.
I stopped her, shaking my head. "I know my own body better than anyone else. Even if you called the doctor, it wouldn't make a difference."
Hearing my words, Abigail stared at me with a slightly darkened expression.
She took a deep breath and said in a low voice, "Samuel, don't test my patience! The fact that I'm here with you is already a waste of my time. I don't want to have my time wasted pointlessly. You need to cooperate with me!"
I responded with a bitter chuckle, "Is that so? Ms. Bardot, if you're that busy, then you're free to leave. Why stay here for a useless man like me?"
"You…"
She hadn't expected me to say something like that.
Her attitude softened unexpectedly as she looked at me and said in a gentler tone, "I know you're worried about the children. Lana's surgery is a success. I've already transferred the funds for the next year. You don't need to worry anymore."
That was indeed good news for me.
However, what surprised me was that Abigail was the one breaking the news to me.
Wasn't she usually the best at using such matters to manipulate others? What made her provide the funds for those children without much of a fuss?
I had lost all hope, yet she had just unexpectedly given me a glimmer of it once more.
"Can I call in a doctor and nurses for you now?"
